PHILIP JOHNSON LIFE AND PROJECTS
Biography Philip Johnson was a renowned American architect who is particularly known for his postmodern work. Philip Cortelyou Johnson was born on July 8, 1906, and died on January 25, 2005. Throughout his 99 year lifetime, he has often made his name in American architecture. He is known for his thick and round glasses in his personal image. He studied architecture at Harvard University. He was awarded many awards and received the Pritzker Prize in 1995 with the Glass House he designed for himself.
Childhood and Early Life Philip Cortelyou Johnson was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 8, 1906. His father was an attorney. He was one of the four children and the only son of his parents. He received his early education from Hackley School, New York. He was a bright student in school, and in 1923, he was admitted to Harvard University without an exam. At Harvard, He studied history and philosophy.
Career Philip Johnson's most prominent feature is that his works do not entirely on a particular architectural style line. He continued his observation and did not hesitate to try new styles. Because of this feature, it has received a lot of positive and negative reactions. However, often trying the firsts and presenting new trends with examples, Philip Johnson carried the name apart.
