Observations of other fish How are other fish acting like your fish? How are other fish NOT acting like your fish?
Brainstorm all possible reasons your fish is acting like it is. 1. 2. 3. 4.
Time to test! • Work in groups of four to carry out as many tests as you can in the next 15 -20 minutes. • Collect enough information to be able to construct an explanation for the cause(s) of this phenomena.
Suggested tests…. (make sure to document results, you do not have to follow order listed below ) • Place a glove on your hand lay fish in palm for 30 seconds, measure temperature of palm with glove. Repeat without a glove. What do you notice? • Place a fish in a dish on top of a paper towel soaked in ice water for 30 seconds. Measure temperature of towel. (do the same test for towel soaked in hot water, room temp water) • Place fish under a lamp turned off (then on) for 30 seconds. • Soak paper towel in room temperature water, slowly lower the head over towel without touching. Try doing this in a variety of ways without fish touching towel. Hold fish by head/tail over the towel without touching towel. Try with hot water/ice water. • Tape fish to edge of table. Bring moistened paper towel strip close to fish without touching. • What else can you test to inform your explanation? Collect enough information to be able to construct an explanation for the cause(s) of this phenomena
