Marble Ramps STEM Challenge Purpose: To practice group work and use problem solving skills to build a ramp that will slow down and stop a marble with a limited number of materials. Materials: • 2 sheets of newspaper • 1 meter masking tape • 1 marble • Scissors (for cutting, cannot be part of the ramp) • Ruler (for measuring, cannot be part of the ramp)
Criteria & Constraints Criteria • height-25 cm or taller • must carry a marble the entire length without being touched after it is first released • marble must change direction at least once • marble must stop at the end of the ramp Constraints • ruler and scissors can not be used as part of the ramp • ramp can not be taped to the table/desk • no extra supplies • limited time to complete this project (25 minutes)
