To have a common understanding of food security and nutritional challenges faced by populations in Sudan Phase Classification Integrated Food Security WHY WE ARE HERE
• To work with FSTS staff and partners technical experts in the development of an IPC prototype map showing analysis, and update it with the time frame covering July – August 2010 thru Nov – Oct 2010. • To support the coordination and sharing food security information across the country follow up state level implementation activities. Phase Classification Integrated Food Security Objectives • To strengthen national capacity in food security and nutrition situation analysis and to further explore the technical issues regarding the IPC as a tool for state/locality comparability.
• The IPC defines the severity of a crisis and its trend attaches it to humanitarian response. It integrates standardized scale of • food security, • nutrition, • livelihood and • extended mode of FS information • The IPC builds upon internationally accepted standards and classifications to support holistic evidence based approaches to analysis. • The IPC draws together multiple aspects of food security and humanitarian analysis, thus the word ‘integrated’ in its title. Phase Classification Integrated Food Security IPC Definitions • The IPC summarizes Situation Analysis, which is a foundational stage whereby fundamental aspects (severity, causes, magnitude, etc) of a situation are identified.
