Ph. D-status for Magne Syrstad Ph. D-seminar for software engineering group. November 23 rd 2004
Outline n Two case studies n Good start to planning, but a lot remains n AKVAsmart n DNV n Overall plans for next 6 months n 3 questions
AKVAsmart n Establishment of a product family to support fish farming industry n Replacing old project n First project finished, the main one underway n But a plan project starting outside of the common platform n Possible focus: n Adoption n Architecture and variability mechanisms
DNV Software n They have a common platform called BRIX n Domain independent, little functionality n From the Nauticus line of products n Being established as platform for all products within DNV software n Two possible cases n AIMS – Asset integration management system n Making domain specific, shared components n RMS – Risk management system n Making an extended platform as well as domain components.
DNV Software AIMS RMS BRIX n Focus is still in the air n Scoping of reusable components? n Adoption strategies n Overall benefits? Time to market, economy. . . n Will have to agree on something with DNV Software
Plan for the next 6 months n Get case studies going and obtain results n Organize local arrangements for changeability experiment with Simula. n Organize exercises in software architecture course n Take research methods course to complete classes n Present something at internal Ph. Dconference in May/June to finish IT-emner
Questions n How wide is it wise to make a study ? The wider the more publishing opportunities, but the narrower the better result? n One thing is getting a study started, but how to make it going, keeping the company interested? n Does anyone know other companies with large company wide frameworks/families that are neither in the Familier project, nor Kantega?
