General Ideals Problems Solutions § The United States, on average, consumes about 183 million gallons of petroleum per day. America is the largest waster/ user of petroleum in the world. The most common use for petroleum is plastic which is used for toys, containers, Ziploc bags, and much more. America, help us help you. It isn’t wasting season, it’s conserving season. Get your petroleum back America! § One thing we can do to conserve petroleum is to decrease the amount of petroleum used in products including plastic, gasoline, and other things. Another solution is instead of driving, which uses gasoline, we can walk or ride our bike for short distances. We can use renewable resources instead of non -renewable so we won’t run out of petroleum. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!
More Solutions § Those who don’t have cars, it is best to buy one with the highest Miles per Gallon. This will make a huge impact on the conservation of petroleum because a lot of petroleum is used to make gas, and the less gallons of gas we use, the more petroleum we save. § Another thing we can do is when we walk short distances, we can walk or ride the bike. This will benefit us because automobiles use a lot of gasoline, which is made of petroleum.

More Solutions § Because plastic is the largest use for petroleum, we can reduce the amount of plastic we make by replacing plastic items with other material like metal or paper § We can buy items that don’t revolve around petroleum, like paper bags, metal containers, metal toys, and much more. We can also replace petroleum with another source of energy that is renewable.

Formation of Petroleum Oil § Petroleum is a fossil fuel derived from ancient fossilized organic materials, such as zooplankton and algae. Vast quantities of these remains settled to sea or lake bottoms, mixing with sediments and being buried under anoxic conditions. As further layers settled to the sea or lake bed, intense heat and pressure build up in the lower regions. This process caused the organic matter to change, first into a waxy material known as kerogen, which is found in various oil shales around the world, and then with more heat into liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons via a process known as catagenesis. Formation of petroleum occurs from hydrocarbon pyrolysis in a variety of mainly endothermic reactions at high temperature and/or pressure. © Wikipedia
