Key Dates for PESE Tests ONLINE: Online registration for Kent Test: www. kent. gov. uk/ola 1 st June 2018 -2 nd July 2018 (before 12: 00 noon) Thursday 6 th September 2018 Testing for Kent pupils 11 th October 2018 Assessment results available online after 4 pm, or posted to parents by first class mail to arrive the following day – you will be informed if your child is deemed to be working at Grammar School level not what school they will be going to.

PESE 2018 TEST FORMAT: English and Maths (multiple choice format – approx 60 mins): n English reading passage – 26 comprehension, punctuation and spelling questions (to be completed in 25 minutes) n Maths paper – 25 questions (to be completed in 25 minutes) Reasoning (multiple choice format – approx 60 mins): n Verbal Reasoning – 32 questions n Spatial Reasoning – 2 sections totalling 24 questions n Non-Verbal Reasoning – 2 sections totalling 24 questions n Writing exercise (approx 40 minutes) under test conditions

“Many children will find the test difficult. Grammar schools in Kent provide for children in about the top 25% of the ability range. In addition, some of Kent’s grammar schools - particularly those which are most likely to offer places to children from outside Kent - give priority to those with the highest scores. You may want to discuss your child’s academic achievement with their primary school before you decide whether to register them for the Kent Test. ”

The Shepway Test Application Form All applications for the Shepway Test must be submitted using the online forms on the schools’ websites. Deadline for applications Folkestone School for Girls – Not available at this time. Harvey Grammar School for Boys – Monday 9 th July 2018 Invitations will be sent out to all candidates by 5 th September at the latest. The Shepway Test Saturday 8 th September - 9 am to 2 pm The Shepway test is approximately 2 hours long. It is essential that you attend at the time stated on your invitation.

Shepway Test format n n Written test The written test consists of the following element: - Half an hour of creative writing Computer test The computer test consists of the following elements: - Comprehension - Vocabulary and understanding of Words - Mathematics - Non-verbal reasoning
