Personalized Learning Defined “Personalization refers to instruction that is paced to learning needs, tailored to learning preferences, and tailored to the specific interests of different learners. In an environment that is fully personalized, the learning objectives and content as well as the method and pace may all vary. ” ~2010 National Education Technology Plan Flexible, anytime, everywhere learning, redefine teacher role and expand “teacher”, projectbased, authentic learning, student-driven learning path, mastery/competency-based progression pace Seeks to empower the learner to shape what, how, and when they learn, thus engaging them through their explicit and implicit choices.

Learner Profiles & Personal Learning Plans: Learner Profiles reflect students’ prior school Henry County Schools’ Vision for Personalized Learning performance and interests. Personal Learning Plans are cocreated by students, their families and HCS staff to help chart learning paths unique to each student. Competency-Based Learning: Courses have clearly identified learning targets, and students move through coursework as they demonstrate mastery of each target. Time and place are flexible, while learning is constant. Authentic / Project-Based Learning: Students learn through real-world projects, problemsolving, and service learning inside and outside of the classroom, and present evidence of their learning to authentic audiences such as parents, business and community members. Communication, Collaboration Creativity, Critical Thinking: Learning experiences will be designed to foster these key overarching skills and dispositions needed for 21 st Century college and career success.
