IT IS QUITE SIMPLY A MAP IMAGINE A KIOSK AT A MALL n n With 3 “anchor” Stores (Heart, Body, Head) & 3 Entrances for each n Heart-Spirit: Efficiency; Love; Originality n Gut-Body: Peace; Power; Goodness n Head-Mind: Loyalty; Wisdom; Joy The entrances represent values / lens through which your care receiver filters their experience / reality. Enneagram theory suggests that each of us tends to not only have a favorite store but also a favorite entrance. Being creatures of habit, we consistently (consciously or unconsciously) “park” in front of one particular store and use one particular entrance over all the others. A CHRISTOCENTRIC VIEW (i. e. CHRIST AT THE CENTER) OF THE ENNEAGRAM YIELDS NINE

A CHRISTOCENTRIC VIEW (i. e. CHRIST AT THE CENTER) OF THE ENNEAGRAM YIELDS NINE POSSIBLE DISCIPLESHIP STANCES - - You and your care receiver filter Jesus’ call to discipleship through a set of values which in turn shapes your particular vision of the world (what you see and what you don’t). There are nine particular discipleship stances within the world. 2 3 4 Disciples Who Seek To Connect Disciples Who Seek Success & Efficiency Disciples Who Seek To Be Understood 8 9 1 Disciples Who Seek Justice & Strength Disciples Who Seek Peace & Harmony Disciples Who Seek To Perfect 5 6 7 Disciples Who Seek Knowledge & Information Disciples Who Seek Security Disciples Who Seek Options & Possibilities Presented by personalityportfolios. com

n As disciples we can trip ourselves or others up when are overly committed or overly confident in our stance. We can also do real harm when we are unaware or unwilling to admit the blind spots associated with our stance.

DISCIPLESHIP DEVELOPMENT “If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. ” – Philippians 2: 1 -2 “Encouragement in Christ” is thought of and feels differently within each discipleship stance. “Consolation from love” is thought of and feels differently within each discipleship stance. “Sharing in the Spirit” is thought of and feels differently within each discipleship stance And, “compassion and sympathy” not only present differently but comes from a completely different motivational space within each discipleship stance. Thus, joy is made complete when one recognizes and appreciates that one’s view is incomplete without the presence of the other eight stances or views. WE ARE EACH WOUNDED HEALERS AND WE RE-PRESENT CHRIST TO ONE ANOTHER. Umbuntu – I am because you are and we are because Christ is. Our joy is made complete when we recognize and appreciate that our view is incomplete without the presence of the other eight stances or views. What’s in your portfolio? How might the “me” / “not me” in your portfolio affect your assessment of your care receiver or ability to listen to them? DISCIPLESHIP DEVELOPMENT “If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. ” – Philippians 2: 1 -2 Three other factors determine how a disciple filters things like “encouragement in Christ”, etc. First, the manner & degree to which that disciple identifies with the stance to the left or right of their own (wings). Second, the manner & degree to which a disciple draws on the energy of the two stances it is connected to by virtue of the connecting lines of the diagram (i. e. with & against the arrow). Third, the manner & degree to which a disciple is influenced by the three instinctual variants (Social, One To One, or Self Preservation). For this reason no two disciples are ever the same, even if they share the same discipleship stance (though it will amaze them how similar they are). n n DEFINING HEALTHY DISCIPLESHIP Healthy Discipleship involves a daily struggle for balance in the face of the disease & dis-ease the disciple faces in the world. But the balancing act of healthy discipleship is temporary. Health is not attainable. The drive toward health is present in every living thing, and so the disciple is not alone in the discovery that health is not a state that one acquires, but a condition that needs to be recreated constantly. Like disease, health can spread. Healthy discipleship is an orientation toward self, others and the world that needs to be recreated constantly. Through Christ, in Christ and because of Christ healthy discipleship can spread. n Adapted from Healthy Congregations. https: //www. healthycongregations. com/

Healthy Discipleship Involves: n n Becoming aware of the particular stance / lens through which we filter the world. Becoming aware of and compassionate toward the particular stance / lens through which others filter the world. The capacity to define self to others, maintaining a connection that does not fuse or cut off from the other. God’s opening us to mind of Christ & feeding us with the Nine Fruits of the Spirit. Resilience Involves: Holding the mind, body and spirit together (a feat only possible through Christ). “ 26 They were greatly astounded and said to one another, “Then who can be saved? ” 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible. ” - Mark 10: 26 -27 The enneagram provides a useful tool to see how Christ’s presence through the Stephen Minister can move the life of the disciple in the direction of the integration of mind, body & spirit to bring love and compassion for self and others. Truly as Jesus speaks there is a reunification (i. e. a restoration, completion, reconciliation) of that which had been broken off or separated from the whole. And that brings joy. “I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. ” (John 15: 11) Presented by personalityportfolios. com

LET’S CHECK YOUR STANCE / LENS BETTER, WORSE OR ABOUT RIGHT? SCHEMA: - A pattern imposed on complex reality or experience to assist in explaining it, mediate perception, or guide response. This pattern manifests itself in our mind, body and spirit. It is for these reasons that not only do we each define and live out our discipleship differently, we see and interpret various definitions of discipleship according to the lenses of our values. BETTER, WORSE OR ABOUT RIGHT? “We don’t see what we look at, we see what we look for. Expectation directs attention. We see what we expect to see. If you expect to see a friendly universe around you, you will probably see compassion, altruism and good humor. If you expect to see a hostile universe, you will probably see violence, selfishness and treachery. Anticipation distorts perception. Previewing distorts viewing. ” - Frank Rivers The Way of the Owl. THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT 3 Center Alignment: Moving from Less Resourceful to Resourceful Using Psalm 51 http: //www. personalityportfolios. com Nine Portfolios You Want In Yours

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT Fruit of the Spirit = Love Core

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT Fruit of the Spirit = Love Core Values THIS DISCIPLE filters both Jesus’ call to discipleship AND Jesus’ command to “Go make disciples. ” through the following: n n n Love. Generous giving. Harmonious intimate mutual relationships. Empathy. Nurturance. Care. Warmth. Acceptance. Encouragement. Support. Make the world a more loving place. 3 Center Alignment: Moving from Less Resourceful to Resourceful Using Psalm 51 n n n THE HEART/ SPIRIT OF THE DISCIPLE - Create in me a clean heart, Oh God, and renew a right spirit within me THE BODY OF THE DISCIPLE - Cast me not away from your presence and THE HEAD / MIND OF A DISCIPLE - Take not your Holy Spirit (mindset) from me (the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence. ) "Be transformed by a renewal of your mind, " - Romans 12: 2 WHEN ALL THREE COME TOGETHER THEN THERE IS TRUE PRESENCE & THE PRAYER OF OUR BLESSED LORD IS ANSWERED: “That they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. ” - John 17: 21

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful Emotional: Vice = Pride) Signs that

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful Emotional: Vice = Pride) Signs that an TWO’S Heart would need to cry out “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” n n n Pride: I give and I give. I don’t have needs. I am important in people’s lives. I have unlimited resources. To please others, I must say “yes”. Get a good breath and on the exhale push all of this out of your heart saying, “Create in me a clean heart, O God”

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful Emotional: Virtue = Humility) WHEN THIS

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful Emotional: Virtue = Humility) WHEN THIS PRAYER IS ANSWERED WE SEE: n n n Humility: the reality principle. Acceptance of one’s limits and potentials. Recognition of what the other person really needs or doesn’t need. Personal boundaries and limits are good for everyone involved. Saying “no” is just as acceptable as saying “yes”. Again focusing on your breath, take all of this into your heart saying, “and renew a right spirit within me. ”

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful Behaviors) A TWO prays “cast me

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful Behaviors) A TWO prays “cast me not away from your presence” because the following behaviors reveal they are away from presence: n Compulsive helping and advice giving. n Flattering and fawning. n Giving strokes to receive strokes. n n Helping whether others need it or not. Compulsive rescuing which can lead to feeling victimized and then resentment. Where have these side tracked your journey? You know do you not that they take you far from “home”…far from who you want to be…who God knows you to be? It doesn’t have to go this way. Breathe & pray: “cast me not away from your presence”

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful Behaviors) The following behaviors reveal the

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful Behaviors) The following behaviors reveal the TWO stands in presence: n n n Sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings. Approachable and available to others. Generous affirmation and support of others. Concern that others are heard and feel accepted. Move toward others in affiliation and friendship. HEAR JESUS SPEAK THESE WORDS TO YOU: “I am, therefore you love. Presence is love and love flows from my presence. These behaviors are a sign that I am in you and you are in me. ”

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful Thinking) THE WISDOM OF THE HOLY

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful Thinking) THE WISDOM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of council and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord) PUTS THE MIND OF THE TWO AT EASE n n n It is more blessed to give AND to receive. Love your neighbor in the same manner as you love yourself and vice versa. Interdependence is the golden mean between independence and dependence/codependence. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. If someone is hungry, teach them to fish so they can learn to feed themselves. Focusing again on your breath, hold these truths in your mind with gratitude and pray, “Take not your Holy Spirit from me. ”

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful Thinking-Fixations / A. N. T. S)

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful Thinking-Fixations / A. N. T. S) A TWO WILL KNOW THEY HAVE CUTOFF THEIR CONNECTION WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN THE FOLLOWING AUTOMATIC NEGATIVE THOUGHTS CREEP IN TO SAY: n n n It is more blessed to give than to receive. Others’ needs must be met first before mine can be met. Other people have to like me. I must make myself indispensable. If someone is hungry, give them a fish so they will need you and return to you the next time they’re hungry.

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful State) THE FOLLOWING BEHAVIORS INDICATE THAT

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Less-Resourceful State) THE FOLLOWING BEHAVIORS INDICATE THAT THE TWO’S MIND & HEART ARE NOT AT REST n n n ¡ Give more, sacrifice more, suffer more. Feeling victimized and taken advantage of. Guilting others for not appreciating and caring for you more. Fantasizing revenge and vindication for not being appreciated. Becoming more dependent on others and getting them more dependent on you. Becoming pseudo-independent and pushing others away (temporarily). Focusing again on your breath, inhale to own them and exhale to release them, praying: “RESTORE TO ME THE JOY OF YOUR SALVATION & UPHOLD ME WITH YOUR FREE SPIRIT” Inhale and feel the restorative presence of Jesus’ unconditional love.

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful State) AS GOD ANSWERS THEIR PRAYER

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT (Resourceful State) AS GOD ANSWERS THEIR PRAYER AND BRINGS THE TWO INTO A MORE RESOURCEFUL STATE THESE ARE THE SIGNS THAT THE JOY OF THEIR SALVATION IS BEING RESTORED & THAT THEY ARE BEING UPHELD BY THE SPIRIT: n n n Self image shift from “I’m helpful” to “I’m special. ” Shift from self-abasing to self-expressing. In touch with creative self. Appreciation of solitude and aloneness. Can take care of self and let others take care of themselves. Able to say “no” as well as “yes”. I am lovable because I am me vs. because I am useful.

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT WHERE DO YOU SEEK TO AVOID… n

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT WHERE DO YOU SEEK TO AVOID… n n n Own needs, agendas, feelings, desires. Selfishness and self regard. Asking for what one wants. Hurting others by moving away from them in autonomy. Hurting others by moving against them in anger. This can present differently depending upon how pride is filtered through the subtype. Self-Preservation TWOS for example can be “me first”. This comes from wanting to be seen, not wanting to hurt, move against or be better than, but definitely no less important than another.

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT IS YOUR ANXIETY IS TRIGGERED BY. .

THE TWO: THE DISCIPLE SEEKING TO CONNECT IS YOUR ANXIETY IS TRIGGERED BY. . . n n n ¡ Rejection. Disconnection. Separation. Lack of acceptance. Feeling unappreciated. Judged to be unhelpful or displeasing. NOTE: When the TWO catches themselves in the act of having thoughts, feelings or exhibiting behaviors within the non-resourceful lists, they might ask what it was specifically that they allowed to “push their buttons”. How it might be connected to one of these triggers? Might Psalm 51 be God’s way of carrying you back home?
