My Reasons for Teaching • I have a real desire to teach • The idea of having a positive impact on the lives of others is appealing to me • As a teacher, I will always be learning (formally and otherwise) “A teacher’s authentic desire to make a connection with every student and to consider each individual’s needs is the essence of good teaching” (Koch, 14)

The Traits of an Effective Teacher • Dedication • Flexibility • Thoroughness • Patience • Willingness to Adapt

The Characteristics of Students and Community • Diversity – backgrounds, learning styles, etc. • A school that is willing to work with minority students so that they are not marginalized • A community which is involved and interested in the school

Contributing to the Profession • Helping the students outside of schoolwork • Advocating for education – informally as well as things like organizations and committees
