Registration Process • Every year, students are recommended for courses based on their current

Registration Process • Every year, students are recommended for courses based on their current class levels and/or teacher recommendations. • Recommendations for placement in Math classes and World Language or Reading classes are based on classroom performance, as well as testing scores. • Students are asked to bring home the registration sheet to discuss with their parents/guardians and complete and return the form to school.

It is also available on our website and Schoology. • Any questions or concerns about courses should be first directed to the teacher of that class this year.

World Language/Reading • The first recommendation on the registration sheet is for Reading or

World Language/Reading • The first recommendation on the registration sheet is for Reading or World Language. Students are recommended for these courses by current teachers. • If a student has WL in the Recommendation, they need to choose Spanish, French, or Chinese where it is indicated on the form. • If a student has Reading in the Recommendation, they should move on to the next step. • If a student has a World Lanugage listed in the Recommendation, they should move on to the next step UNLESS they are interested in switching languages. If there is an interest in changing languages, they should mark the new language where it is indicated on the form.

Math • Students are recommended for their math class by their current math teacher.

Math • Students are recommended for their math class by their current math teacher. • Recommendations are based on performance in class, MCAP scores, and MAP testing scores. • Students cannot advance to a higher level math course without successfully completing the course before. • Students recommended for Math Assistance (PAWA) will receive an additional math class every other day to enhance their mathematics instruction. This replaces a special area class.

Special Areas • All students must take Physical Education and one Fine Art course(Art

Special Areas • All students must take Physical Education and one Fine Art course(Art or Music) each year. • Students have space in their schedule for 4 special area classes, but depending on academic requirements, they may only take 3 or 2 specials. • All students should number their special choices with a 1, 2, and 3 at the bottom of the paper. • Students that apply to and are accepted to the AVID program will have PE and a Fine Art as their specials.

Music • The current music course is listed on the back of the registration

Music • The current music course is listed on the back of the registration sheet. Students that are not currently enrolled in music will see NA in this box. • Students that wish to take music that have not had it before need to make a music selection. Previous experience with an instrument is necessary for a performing music (Band or Orchestra) • If a student would like to switch the music class to a different one for next year, they should choose a course where it is indicated on the form. • Once a music selection is made, students must stay with that course for the entire year.

Class Changes and Questions • Class changes only take place during registration time, unless it is recommended by a teacher. For example, switching an instrument, switching from Art to Music, or changing a World Language cannot happen once the year has started, so please make sure all selections are accurate. • Questions regarding the level of classes should be discussed with the classroom teacher. • All other questions should be directed to your child’s counselor listed at the bottom of the registration form.
