Timeline Happened 248 - 286 million years ago. Happened in the middle of the 5 mass extinctions…. Permian mass extinction caused 96% of the species to die. All life on earth today is descended from the 4% of species that survived.
Cause One of theory of Cause of Permian extinction was caused by massive volcanic eruption around Siberia, which had produced massive lava known as basalt. Another theory is rapid warming of climate caused by glacier movement (fluctuations produced by concurrent glaciation)
Evidence Fossil evidences are: Evidence has been wiped out because of oxygen and the water dissolved carbon dioxide.
Why were these organisms unable to survive? Temperature crises, especially of those occurring in shallow marine. The temperature rose 14 degrees F. There is evidence of increased ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth causing the multation of plant spores.
What evidence from fossil record do we have of these organisms? The fossils show that the extinction did not all happen at once it took years for them to die out. They can use radiometric dating for some of the fossils and rocks but for others it can be unstable dating.
Specific Organisms That Were Able to Survive Low level sea creatures survived. Sea creatures like. . . -fish -Squid -snail -crabs
Why were these organisms able to survive? They survived the Permian Mass Extinction because most of their predators (land animals) died from the extinction themselves. Without predators there is a few number of organism to terminate the population of the species.
What evidences from the fossil record do we have of these organisms? There is no fossil records of these organisms because of oxygen and the water dissolved dioxide. Fossilcarbon Records. . .
Did these organisms change over time due to the mass extinction? The species was able to expand because of the lack of predators and threats that could decrease the population of the species. The number of low level sea creature increased during the years. In the mass extinction time, there was more land animals than sea creatures. Now the number
6 th Mass Extinction Biologists and paleoecologists estimate that humans have driven roughly 1, 000 species extinct in our 200, 000 years on the planet.
Organisms that will become extinct This includes animals such as the mammoth and mastodon, the American lion, saber toothed cats such as Smilodon and Homotherium, giant sloths, giant birds such as the Moa, gorilla sized lemurs such as Archaeoindris, an 8 foot long tortoise called Meiolania, the large and aggressive wild ancestor of cattle the aurochs, the 30 foot long Steller's Sea Cow, the giant short faced bear, the unicorn Elasmotherium, the dragon Megalania, a species of giant 600 lbs kangaroo, car sized giant armadillos, cave hyenas, cave lions, giant beavers, a species of horned crocodile ,
The 9 foot long saber tooth salmon, a species of 500 lbs rodent, the largest owl to have ever existed Ornimegalonyx, the enormous 8 feet at the shoulder and 4500 lbs ice age bison Bison latifrons, several species of giant freshwater fish, a giraffe species that lived in India Sivatherium, the American cheetah Miracinonyx, the largest eagle ever known the Haast’s eagle, the strange giant hoofed animal Toxodon, several species of small plane sized teratorn birds in North America, the stag moose, the 6 meter long constrictor snake Wonambi, the giant North American camel Camelops, the enormous relative of modern polar bears the Tyrant Sea Bear, the dire wolf, and the 7 foot tall 1500 lbs Irish Elk, among others.
Organisms adapting to survive Since the cause of the extinction is us humans than very little species will be able to survive because if our pollution doesn’t kill them then either our rapid population expansion or our need for food. Organisms will need to adapt their breathing to compensate for the polluted air.
Evidence from 6 th mass extinction Evidence left from the 6 th mass extinction will be human and animal remains. Also if humans survive then there will be some sort of record of it.
