Translation lattice By translating a motif in 1, 2 or 3 dimension an infinite 1 -, 2 - or 3 -D periodic pattern is created. The symmetry content can be separated into the symmetry of the lattice and the symmetry of the motif. The symmetry of the pattern can be equal or lower than the symmetry of the lattice/motif.
