It is Similar in form and function Extracurricular Activities -Specifically found only in Eukaryotic Cells, thus It is found in fungi, protists, plants and animal cells Where can you find it? -Found in the Nucleus of a cell -Outside of the Nucleolus, within the Cell Wall What does it do? -”Suspension Medium” for Organelles, it holds them together -Maintains Nuclear shape and structure -Transport of ions, molecules, and other Substances -Protects Nucleolus Joo-Ho Kim – Period 7

Nuclear Membrane I hang out inside the cell, right outside the nucleus! I am most known for holding the nucleus together, and transporting materials in and out of the nucleus. I’m kind of like the security system for the nucleus. I am in eukaryotic cells, plants and animal. So I’m in any cell with a nucleus. I’m an only child, There is only one cell membrane in each cell, I am one of a kind, at least in my cell that is. Nuclear membrane Annie Gawroniak 7

Cell Membrane (Most likely to become a Police Officer) Due to security reasons, I cannot be captured in a picture in case the enemy sees me and knows what to evolve into Favorite Hang-Out? I’m wrapped all over the border; everywhere in the border. Hobbies? Like a good officer, I always make sure to let friends into our cell. If they’re suspicious, I kick ‘em out and send for the antibody FBI after them to ensure safety Siblings? I’m an only child. You only need one me to get everything in and out Extracurriculars? I’m in every single cell. A cell without me is a house with no walls Danielle Han p 7

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Favorite Hang out – I live in Cytoplasm ( through out the cell) mostly in Liver / Brain Found specifically in cells producing lipids and steroids Siblings – My siblings depends on what cell it is. Hobbies. Liver- to detoxify certain compounds Brain- To synthesize with hormones The Smooth ER is long and stringy to help transport things throughout the cell. Extracurricular Activities – I am found in both animal and plant cells, a greater amount in brain and liver ones I am not found in muscle cells The smooth ER detoxifies and synthesizes lipids and carbohydrates. Cells that are in livers tend to have a greater smooth ER concentration compared to a skin cell. My working buddies are Golgi body and the ribosomes. The ribosomes make proteins, the Golgi body packages the proteins and the smooth ER helps to transport them throughout the cell. By Jenny Oh Period 7 Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum -Oh

Microtubule: • Microtubules Hang out all through out the inside of the cell. Microtubules are long hollow rods. • They help form the structure of the cell. Also they provide a network for substances to move around the cell. • Found in all Eukaryotic cells. Chris Orsini period 7

M U L L E G A L F M O S T L IK E L Y T O B E C O M E A F A M O U S A T H L E T E Extracurricular Activities: To be honest, I’m really involved with cells. I can be found in most cells, prokaryotic and eukaryotic. Hobbies: I’m pretty involved with pushing my organelle friends forward, and motivating them to Siblings: Sometimes I’m a single child, but a lot of times, I have 1 -2 siblings. Winston Shaw Nicosia, P 7

Chromosome Favorite Hang-Out Spot: In the nucleus which is in the middle of the cell. Hobbies: Carrying hereditary materials across generations and it is made up of densely coiled up chromatin. Extracurricular Activities: Found in all animal and plant cells and any plant/animal cell that has a nucleus has chromosomes Siblings: In Eukaryotes found in the nucleus there are normally 46 chromosomes in animals and less than 40 in plant cells. Leah Yourstone Period 7

Centriole Favorite Hang-Out Spot: You can find me in near the center of a cell, right outside the nucleus in the centrosome. Hobbies: In my free time, I like to help cells divide and reproduce. Mitosis is my life. I make reproducing a more efficient and less error-prone process. Siblings: I am usually a twin. However, during the division of a cell my twin and I separate and grow apart, moving to opposite sides of the cell. Then when the cell divides, so do me and my twin! But in the new cell I get a new twin. Extracurricular Activities: You can find me in some eukaryotic cells. I am in all animal cells, however I do not like to be in plant or fungi cells.

Favorite Hang-Out Spot The RER likes to hang near the center of things [the nucleus], and closes the space between it and the other organelles. The “RER” Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Extracurricular Activities Found in all eukaryotic cells except mammals’ red blood cells, the RER is one of the most well-rounded and popular organelles of them all! Hobbies The RER aids in the production and processing of proteins by folding them into threedimensional structures (secondary, tertiary, and quaternary protein structures). It is also what allows proteins to travel from the ribosomes (harbored inside it) to the other parts of the cell. Siblings The RER has no siblings- it’s an only child!- but it varies in size from cell to cell and periods during a cell’s life. On the other hand, the RER has a cousin: the SER, or Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum. Roberta Shapiro Per. 7

Mitochondrion • Favorite Hang-out Spot: anywhere in the cytoplasm • Hobbies: providing energy for cell to perform its tasks (without the mitochondria, the cell wouldn’t run!) • Extracurricular Activities: it is not present in all cells such as prokaryotes and RBC but it is in all eukaryotes • Siblings: the numbers vary from one to several thousand (mom and dad lost count!) XOXO Serena Jia Pd 7

Our favorite hang-out spot is in the cytoplasm, but we try to stick to the nucleus. When we’re together, our hobbies are: A) Making microtubules that help make cytoskeleton, B) Acting as a signal to start cytokinesis, it can’t happen without us! C) Signaling to daughter cells to start duplicating their chromosomes in the S Phase D) Helping organize the baby m. RNA. We need to make sure that they go home with the right daughter cell. E) Organizing the primary cilium. F) In some developing neurons, wherever we are is where the axon will grow out of. We do extracurricular volunteering at Animal Cell. We actually have a close cousin who’s not a twin (doesn’t have centrioles) and he volunteers at Plant Cell. He does mostly the same things we do. Centrosome A page for the inseparable Centriole twins! “Only apart during mitosis class. ” --Mrs. Nucleus Anna Mehrabyan Period 7

Intermediate Filament-de la Rosa The Intermediate Filament is located all over the cell; four of five types of IF are found in the cytoplasm of the cell, 1 of 5 is found in the nucleus. The IF job is that they keep the cell’s shape, and maintains the cell and organelle’s motility. IF is found in all animal cells, but not plant cells. Kristen de la Rosa Period 7

Nucleolus Favorite Hang-Out Spot: I'm found in the center of the inside of a cell Hobbies: I directs the assembly of proteins within the cell nucleus Extracurricular Activities: Eukaryotic cells often contain a single nucleolus, but several are also possible. The exact number of nucleoli is fixed among members of the same species. Siblings: Nucleus

VACUOL E voted “largest organelle” in the plant cell category Hey, I’m Vacuole! You may have seen me hanging out opposite the nucleus in the plant cell, around the smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the chloroplast. I especially enjoy helping out my friend Cell Wall building and stalks and stems! My other hobbies include helping single-celled organisms regulate their water content; storing up organic molecules, water, and waste, as well as disposing of waste. You may know a couple of my siblings, too, but they only hang out in animal cells, not Extracurricular activities: Animal and Plant Cells plants cells. Alex Sine p. 7
