JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Strip the cable according to the measurement. Note L is half the length if the connector to be used plus 10 mm clearance • Slightly chamfer the impregnated paper core insulation cutback of all cores 6/4/2021 ITi. Di 7

JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Remove any traces of dirt / grit deposited on the cores • Slide one each clear insulating sleeve over the individual cores • Shrink the sleeves, starting from the crotch and working slowly outwards towards the exposed conductor ends 6/4/2021 ITi. Di 9

JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Slide in the inner and outer insulating sleeves and house it over Cable A and B (protest the sleeve from direct contact with dirt deposited on outer surfaces of the textile/jute serving with clear plastic liners • Slide in one each insulating sleeve (red) over the individual cores of cable A 6/4/2021 ITi. JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Align the cores according to the marker numeral printed on the outer core paper • Insert the conductors into the connectors. Ensure that the conductors touch each other inside the connectors • Join the individual core joints in accordance with standard jointing practices 6/4/2021 ITi. Di 12

Cable link and expose part of the core is to be wrapped with sealant before individual sleeve is to be applied 6/4/2021 ITi. Di 13

JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • File off burns/sharp edges. Abrade and clean traces and greace/grit deposited on the outer surfaces of the connectors with cleaning tissue/cloth • Wrap a strip of sealant (red) helically, starting from the chamfered area of the individual cores of Cable A and continue to wrap over the connector and terminate at the chamfered area of the individual cores of cable B 6/4/2021 ITi. JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Abrade and clean the outer surfaces of the lead alloy sheath and steel tape armor of both cables • Grip tight to bring the four cores together • Fill voids between cores with black mastic filler provided • Warp a strip of sealant (red) each around the lead sheath of both cables (at 20 mm from its cutback as shown) 6/4/2021 ITi. JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Lay the earthing braid over the joint. Rest the free ends of the braid on the steel tape armor cutback of each cable and temporary secure braid onto lead sheath with copper wire binder • Proceed to install a plumb over the steel tape armor and lead sheath as shown 6/4/2021 ITi. JOINTING PILCDSTAS CABLE • Install canister over the joint • Secure the center of the canister with copper wire binder and its ends with armor clamps provided • Cover the copper wire and armor clamps with black mastic filler 6/4/2021 ITi. Di 23
