PEER TUTORING PROGRAM “Assisting students who need additional support in developing their numeracy skills”

Why have this program? It will provide Year 8 students with a tutor to help them to improve their numeracy skills.

Who will be tutoring? Year 8 Tutors are very able mathematics students from years 1012. They will be providing one on one mathematics tuition for any year 8 student needing extra assistance with their Maths.

How will it work? l A booking sheet will be placed on the Year 8 Centre noticeboard every Friday, commencing on Friday 17 th August, for students to book a tutor. l As there will be a limited number of tutors available, assistance will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

Benefits of Peer tutoring Tutees (students being tutored) will: l feel more confident about their mathematical abilities. l be given individual attention provided outside class time and will not need to pay for private tuition classes. l develop further their communication skills, self esteem and personal satisfaction….

Other rewards… A record of attendance will also be kept so that Year 8 students could then accumulate points towards their Skills Awards. Bronze Certificate …… 10 attendances Silver Certificate……… 20 attendances Gold Certificate………. . 30 attendances Trophy…………………. 40 attendances

When will this program start? The Peer Tutoring Program will take place, on a trial basis, every Tuesday lunchtime (12. 55 -1. 40) in room P 001 starting on Tuesday 21 st August.
