PEER INFLUENCE
Students are often influenced by others. This influence can be positive or negative. We will focus on ways you can deal with negative influence.
PEER INFLUENCE CAN COME IN MANY FORMS This may be in the form of distractions when driving.
Remember we are looking for hazards when we drive. If your peers influence you in a negative way, you will be less likely to notice hazards and then will have a hard time separating hazards.
The number one way that peer influence effects us is in drinking and driving.
Many people in here have horror stories of terrible traffic accidents that were directly caused by drinking and driving.
The last thing that you as a teenager believe will happen is that you will lose your life when driving. Statistics tell us that between the ages of 15 and 24 are the most likely to be involved in serious accidents.
PEER INFLUENCE DOES EFFECT YOUR MOOD Remember in a previous lesson that we all drive different when we are angry or sad. Anticipate emotion-producing situations , and adjust your expectations (rush hour).
WE MUST BE OPEN AND HONEST THAT PEER INFLUENCE IS REAL If you are aware of peer influence, you will be able to deal with it better.
We want each of you as high school students to be the person that will stand up and be that person that drives with your peers and not be influenced in a negative way.
You must have an air of self confidence to stand up for yourself and believe that you will do right even when all others are encouraging you to take risks.
