Assess Responsiveness Tap the infant (the bottom of the foot is a good place). Shout “Are you O. K. ? ”. If no response, Shout for help and send someone to alert EMS
The lone healthcare provider should use the 2 -finger chest compression technique for infants. (4 cm) The 2 -thumb–encircling hands technique is recommended when CPR is provided by 2 rescuers.
Chest recoil After each compression, allow the chest to recoil completely (Class IIb, LOE B) because complete chest reexpansion improves the flow of blood returning to the heart and thereby blood flow to the body during CPR.
Ventilation Open the airway using a head tilt–chin lift maneuver for both injured and noninjured victims For healthcare providers and others trained in 2 -person CPR, if there is evidence of trauma that suggests spinal injury, use a jaw thrust without head tilt to open the airway
