Investigation 3, Part 3 Sand Matrix A matrix is a material that holds particles or materials together. It holds the sand together like glue. It holds its shape and hardens when it dries. Challenge: Determine how much sand to add to the matrix to make a good mixture for sculpting. Hint: Start with 3 level spoons of sand see what the mixture is like. If it is too runny, add one more spoonful of sand. You can add up to 6 spoons of sand. Materials: 1 paper plate with matrix on it 1 plastic cup with sand 1 metal spoon (to share) IG pg. 193– 194, Steps 3– 9
