Pearl Harbour By Christopher Gorazda
About Pearl Harbour was the main port of the American Navy located in Oahu in Hawaiian Islands. It consisted of a port for the Pacific Naval Fleet, an airstrip and a bay for their aircraft carriers. Pearl Harbour was officially designated as a training area for the Pacific Navy, constructed under the authority of president Roosevelt.
The attack on Pearl Harbour started just before 8: 00 am, on a Sunday 7 th December, 1941. Japan were planning on destroying the American Navy so they could advance over into Europe owned Indonesia to claim it as their own Bombing of Pearl Harbour
The Japanese sent 4 ships carrying 808 planes and 16000 men. The Japanese were forced to send no telegrams and to not dump any trash over board. The men onboard have no idea where there were going or what their mission is. The Beginning
The radar was a new invention and 2 privates were being trained that day. During their training they spotted a blob of planes. They reported this to HQ with HQ responding, "Its probably some planes coming in from mainland”. Spotted
The Japanese launched a first wave consisting of 183 bombers. They flew over the airstrips where the American planes were held. The Americans were looking over and wondering why planes were flying over on a free day without knowing they were being attacked until the first bombs were dropped. The First Wave
The waters of Pearl Harbour were about 40 -45 meters deep so the Japanese invented a new kind of torpedo with wooden fins so it would rise quicker. The torpedoes were used to blow up naval ships, crippling the Pacific Fleet. The Final Wave
The victory the Japanese sustained was not what their naval commander, Isoroku Yamamoto, expected. The Pacific Fleets aircraft carriers were, by chance, away for training. The Americans praised themselves for their aircraft carriers and their pilots. Yamamoto was hoping that the aircraft carriers were destroyed during the bombing The Ending
The bombing of Pearl Harbour brought America into the war. With Japan owning all of Indonesia, and the American Naval Fleet destroyed, they decided to not take this sitting down. The Aftermath
