? ? ? Peace Talks? ? ? American Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had been talking to Le Duc Tho, his counterpart from North Vietnam since early in 1972, when the U. S. was bombing the North. However, the North kept stalling the talks, while many people died.

Christmas Bombings Because the North stalled the peace talks, the Americans began Operation Linebacker II from 18 – 29 December 1972. This time aimed at the North’s cities. The North will be bombed into surrendering.

Paris Peace Accords Finally on January 27, 1973 a peace agreement was signed. Though the South was skeptical about the North’s ability to remain peaceful, American forces were able to leave (withdrawal) from Vietnam with honor, for they had successfully “contained” Communism.

Prisoners Come Home After the peace treaty was signed, the North released all 591 American Prisoners of War (POWs). However, still today there a lot of Missing in Action (MIA) Americans that had fought in Vietnam. This has led to many suspicions that the North kept a lot of our men in prisons.
