Steps to solve Word Problems Read the problem carefully Identify the important information (circle, underline or highlight) Understand the problem Locating the keywords will help you work out what the question is actually asking Choose a strategy Solve the Diagram, pattern, table, chart, equation. . Which operation could you use? Use/Apply your strategy to Solve the problem ■ First read – to get an idea about what the question is all about ■■ Second read – to pick up on the details of the problem ■■■ Third read – to make sure you have really understood the problem and have not left out any detail Evaluate your answer Does your answer make sense?
