What is the PDCP Program? In accordance with Florida Statutes, the goal of Brevard

What is the PDCP Program? In accordance with Florida Statutes, the goal of Brevard Public School’s Professional Development Certification Program is to provide mid-career professionals or recent non-college of education graduates, who possess a bachelor's degree in a subject for which a professional certificate may be issued, the opportunity to fulfill instructional requirements to qualify as an educator. After completing the Professional Development Certification Program, the participant may seek a professional certificate.

Entry Requirements Full time K-12 classroom teacher with students assigned Passed the General Knowledge Have at least 18 month remaining on your temporary certificate Recommended that you need at least 12 hours of coursework, otherwise it may be more time effective to take college courses

Components of the PDPC Portfolio • 20 job embedded tasks In-service • Reading Competency

Components of the PDPC Portfolio • 20 job embedded tasks In-service • Reading Competency 2 (60 hours) hybrid • ESOL (60 hrs. ) -online • 8 Additional trainings to support task completion through BEACON Educator and PDA (online learning) Additional Requirements • Must pass all three FTCE exams (GK, Subject, Professional) • Effective or Highly Effective Evaluation • Supports learning of he Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (IPPAS) • Practical application in the classroom • Helps to prepare teachers for the K-12 learning environment and the professional education test

What Type of Support Will I Receive? School Based Mentor District/Assessor Mentors • 1

What Type of Support Will I Receive? School Based Mentor District/Assessor Mentors • 1 st year of teaching, weekly mentoring • There are 17 assessors working to assess your portfolio tasks. Each one is an expert in that task and will mentor you through the task both face to face and virtually • 2 nd year of teaching, twice a month • 3 rd year supports through PDC Program mentors based on tasks • PDC Coordinator works to keep you on track throughout the program and monitors your completion of tasks and in-service components

Cost of the Program Initially, teachers in the program will pay $25. 00 per

Cost of the Program Initially, teachers in the program will pay $25. 00 per pay period for 12 pay cycles for a total of $300. 00 Upon successful completion of the program and three years of service to Brevard Public Schools, post completion, the initial payment of $300. 00 will be reimbursed to the teacher.

What are my other options if I don’t want to do PDCP? EPI College Courses • Local state colleges • Range in length from 1 week to 4 weeks depending on school • Must pass GK to enter • Most can be completed in three semesters • Taken at the bachelor’s level or higher, but most of them are not transferrable to other degree programs • No potential to transfer credits • Enrollment period fall, spring, and summer • Cost $2400. 00 -$4800. 00 depending on program (state tuition rates apply) • Online • Florida Southern & University of Phoenix

Important to Consider • Self paced program, you must be self-regulating • Do not start a master’s program or other programs while enrolled in PDCP • Consider your family situation (moving in a year, just found out you are having a baby, no long term plan to stay in education) • Reimbursement is not provided if you do not complete or are not reappointed • This will be a time commitment
