EXPANDED STYLE THE BEST VERSION OF MYSELF 5
WILLIAM MARSTON Marston develop an instrument/methodology to know and understand "oneself, " the behavioral profile (Natural Profile) of individuals, integrating: several theories and concepts: Behavior is a function of the individual in response to his or her perception of the environment. Perception Self-concept Theory Self-consistency Theory Semantics 6
PERCEPTION Perception is a deep psychological process related and intermingled with our history, experiences, memories, current situation, that is, it is related with our self. Perception is the way in which we receive, individualize and interpret the world around us. 7
PERCEPTION Perceptions are not an objective reality; people tend to create their own reality. 8
SELF-CONCEPT THEORY The idea about ourselves he affirms that the human being, since birth and until he turns 16 -18 years old, as a result of experiences, develops a relatively specific and stable perception of himself At the same time, individuals develop certain expectations of what they believe the environment demands of them. Based on this, Marston considers that: "individual behavior" is in part determined by the interaction between the self-concept and the constant adjustments made in response to the demands of the environment. 9
SELF-CONCEPT THEORY Then, the purpose of the "human behavior" becomes Protect Maintain Preserve one's self-concept 10
SELF-CONCEPT THEORY Hence, people tend to behave consistently with what they believe to be. . with the PDA we say: "You tell us who you are" and we will predict ". . . what your behaviour will be" 11
SELF-CONSISTENCY THEORY "Individuals will accept and assimilate those ideas that are consistent with what they believe to be and will reject the ideas that are inconsistent with what they believe to be" 12
SEMANTICS Through his studies, Marston concludes that the interpretation each individual gives to each word is related to their perception. As we have seen, each person perceives differently and according to their self (their selfconcept). That is, each individual will give positive or negative connotations to each word, according to their self (behavioral profile). 13
BEHAVIOURAL PROFILE IMPORTANT: There are no good or bad behavioral profiles. Individuals, according to their behavioral profile, will have to make more or less effort to carry out certain tasks, roles or respond to certain responsibilities. 14
