Recycler Transfers • Recycler DCCT still dead – precision determination of performance not possible • Efficiency Accumulator to MI typically ~97+% • Next step is to raise ARF 4 voltage 5
Operational issues 12/29 – 1/4 • Miscellaneous power supply issues • M: HV 101 I and M: HV 102 I – 165 cards, reference may be drifting, pending resolution (465 cards already exist – should be ready for changeover – need to relay this info to Stan) • HVF 11 – current changed 9 amps to restore trim settings, EE support has installed diagnostics. • Howie says. . . • Are trim settings drifting? 6
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • lost power to all four Debuncher band high level amplifiers - blown 20 A fuse in a bulk supply was the problem. • Tuning – Target vertical adjustment – D/A kicker timing adjustment 7
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • Friday lost a PLC (A: PLC 11) for Debuncher cooling – required access. During the access we also: – Rechecked inductance on IBV 1. Inductance has dropped further to 2. 8 m. H. Pinned the flying wire system – Disconnected and hipotted D 1 Q 13. Leakage current at 600 volts was 150 u. A. • Following the access, stacking was delayed for about 90 minutes because transfer switch positions and attenuator settings held in memory by the PLC had to be reestablished • Friday evening, DRF 1 -2 tripped off and had to be reset after a RRT. It did this three additional times on Saturday, but there are were no further instances of this recorded. • 4 -8 GHz momentum thermostat used for cooling which runs off of the VSA required a reboot of AP 1001 8
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • Target adjustment was made • D: IB power supply failed on a ground fault which interrupted stacking for about 3 hours. A resistor in the circuit had failed. • 7 m. A stack lost when wrong bus cycling procedure used - delayed restart of stacking. 9
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • DRF 1 -3 ENI trouble? • We are testing a new lens on the AP 0 test stand for the next several weeks – Daytime running only for the next few days – Late next week begins round the clock operation – Internally water cooled, ceramic plating replaces Kapton insulation (need a pic) • Accumulator extraction shutter trouble 10
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • D: LNV tripped off on over-voltage coming out of idle stacking • M: HV 102 I tripped off and was reset. 11
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • D: CWST – CUB LCW supply temp not functional for about 6 months – Jim to pursue this – Redefine the device, e. g. , point to cold water supply temperature MADC for Booster water (one possible solution) • D: P 1 A 03 also came into alarm – Tony to follow up with Jerry Makara and obsolete if appropriate 12
Studies – – – Study effect of different cavities on extra-bump (related to the stack-tail operation) in longitudinal core cooling spectrum (DVM, 20 mins destructive, based on result determines additional measurements) - DONE Repeat core heating measurements with network analyzer signal injected after notch filter (Ralph, 2 hours, 50% stacking rate, 240 second timeline, no other events in timeline) - DONE Cross-calibrate power of different stack-tail TWT's using the open loop measurements, Dave and Ralph - DONE Repeat stack-tail measurements (Gains at different revolution frequencies: 628820, 830, 840, 860 and 880. Band-pass filters are out; measurements for legs 1, 2 and 3, document details of the measurements – perform measurements of longitudinal noise spectrum at the beginning and at the end of each measurement) (Steve and Valeri) (2 -4 hours, invasive, no pbars in Accumulator) - DONE Measure values of different betatron sidebands in the longitudinal core cooling spectra excited by a single stack-tail kicker to determine the difference of electrical centers for different modes. (Steve, Valeri), (decreased stacking rate for ~1 hour) Quantify saturation thresholds and dynamic ranges through the stack-tail system, Dave and Ralph 13
Medium/Long Term Studies List • Stacking – – – Stacktail heating measurements Move one of the stacktail leg 1 pickup tanks Beamline orbit during stacking Debuncher cooling measurements Try to use Δ kickers Increase lithium lens gradient • Transfers to Recycler – – Increase ARF 4 voltage to shorten bunches Continue sequencer optimization New (old) orbit reference file for beamlines See if moving beam in ELAM affects beamline optics • General – Measure η at edges of momentum aperture – Scraper vs. BPM positions in Accumulator 14
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • IBV 1 replacement preparation work is proceeding. – – Need to move magnet to AP 0 Probably ready to go starting 1/12/07 15
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • Target rotation alarm solution - done 16
Operational issues 1/5 – 1/11 • NUMI has requested that the cycle time be changed to 2. 2 seconds for a trial period – Input still required – Studies to determine impact on stacking: • Check beam size in D/A line @ 2. 4 s CT to compare with beam size at 2. 2 s CT • Stack at 2. 2 s CT and adjust ARF 1 bucket area to control flux to stacktail (2 iterations) • Stack at 2. 2 s CT with reduced POT • Compare Accumulator and Debuncher DCCTs with every other stacking events 17
