What Is a Title I School? ü Title I was enacted in 1965 under

What Is a Title I School? ü Title I was enacted in 1965 under the ü ü Elementary and Secondary Act. It is the largest Federal Assistance Program for our nation’s schools. The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and meet and exceed state standards. Title I provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to schools with at least 40% of the student population receiving free and reduced meals. 6

Title I funds at our school are applied to: ü Supplementing programs that are already in place in all schools, with the goal of providing all students with equal opportunity for achieving academic success ü Hiring additional teachers and other support staff ü Purchasing supplemental (additional) instructional materials, resources, and educational programs ü Conducting parent activities and workshops focusing on how the school and families can work together to support students in content academic areas and other, as parents request ü Providing professional development for teachers and staff. 7

Ø Facilitate implementing instructional strategies that support the school goals. Ø Provide families with required Title I notifications. Ø Assist in identifying at-risk students. New Georgia School-wide Program: 2018 -2019 School Improvement Plan Our School Improvement Plan (schoolwide goals) include the following: ELA: The percentage of students in grades 3 -5 scoring proficient and advanced in ELA on the spring administration of the Georgia Milestones Assessment will increase from 44% in 2018 to 47% in 2019. Math: The percentage of students in grades 3 -5 scoring proficient and advanced in math on the spring administration of the Georgia Milestones Assessment will increase from 50% in 2018 to 53% in 2019 Behavior: We will work together to reduce the % of office and bus referrals from 17% to 15%. The programs and supports in place to help us achieve these goals: $4. 5 million L 4 GA Grant recipient, district and school level professional learning and collaboration opportunities for all teachers, consistent county-wide assessments and classroom formative and summative assessments, Capturing Kids Hearts training, social contracts/clear classroom expectations for students, 3 Houses of New GA positive school-wide behavior incentives, monthly dog bones celebrations and communication of student expectations through newsletters, morning 10

Social Contracts: The Classroom Contract serves as a collaboratively created framework for behavior expectations

Social Contracts: The Classroom Contract serves as a collaboratively created framework for behavior expectations in the classroom. Students and teacher work together to design an agreement for classroom norms, rules and consequences. To achieve ultimate student ownership, contracts should be developed and agreed upon by all class members. The Classroom Contract can be frequently amended as situations arise. 12

Students in grades Kindergarten through 3 rd grade participate in a Reading Fluency and Math Fluency assessments throughout the year. ü Used to measure progress, identify areas in needs of improvement, and to plan for instruction ü Provides information for teachers and parents on areas where students have mastered learning and where they may need additional support ü Provides information to plan for “next-steps” so that the student will experience continuous growth Teachers will share specific information about student results during Parent-Teacher Conferences in October and March. 15

The Parent & Family Engagement Budget 2018 -2019 The Parent & Family Engagement budget for this year is about $3, 100. Parent input on how the money will be spent includes purchasing the following: ü ü ü Resources, supplies and materials for families to access in our Parent Resource Center ü Instructional games and activities to borrow to use at home with child ü Paper and ink for the parent computer ü Pamphlet and flyer displays Parent & family meeting supplies ü Instructional make-and-take supplies ü Light snacks and beverages Costs related to staff professional development 22

Notifications: Parent Right-to-Know All parents have the right to request the following information about the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s): ü Whether the teacher has met the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s requirements for certification for the grade level and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction; ü Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional status through which Georgia qualifications or certification criteria have been waived; ü The college major and any graduate certification or degree held by the teacher; ü Whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications. 23

Notifications: Notice to Parents of English Learners ü The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires local educational agencies to notify parents of English Learners who have been selected to participate in the LEA’s Title III or Title I supplemental program. ü This additional support(s) is to help improve English skills. ü Parents have the right to refuse these additional supports for their child. 24

Notifications: Intra-District Transfer Option: Public School Choice As a parent or guardian, you may request to have your child transferred to another public school within your school district of residence as long as the school district has determined that there is available classroom space at the school after all assigned students have been enrolled. If you choose to transfer your child to another school in the district, the law requires you to assume all costs and responsibilities related to the transportation of your child to and from the school for as long as your child remains at that school.
