Paul Servant of Jesus Paul Visits an Island Acts 13: 1 -12 Our lesson today reminds us that some people don’t want others to believe in Jesus. Our prayer is that nothing will stop you from hearing about and following Jesus. It has a tricky part for us to understand but it helps us remember that God takes sin seriously. Our memory verse is from the Old Testament; Joshua 3 v 9 b Listen to the words of the Lord your God. Before going any further say a prayer asking for God’s help to hear what he wants to say to us.

Sailing for Cyprus Acts 13: 1 -3 One day when the Christians in Antioch were praying they heard God say “Send Paul and Barnabas” to go to other countries to tell people about Jesus.
Sailing for Cyprus Acts 13: 1 -3 So after they prayed with them, Paul and Barnabas said goodbye to their friends. They got on a boat going to Cyprus. How do you think they felt?
Speaking God’s Word Acts 13: 4 -7 When Paul and Barnabas arrived on the island they told the people about Jesus. They also had the cousin of Barnabas called John Mark to help them.
Speaking God’s Word Acts 13: 4 -7 Then Paul and Barnabas travelled across the island to the largest town called Paphos. An important man heard that Paul and Barnabas were telling everyone about Jesus. He wanted to hear God’s word too, so he sent for them.
Elymas is punished Acts 13: 8 -11 Paul and Barnabas started to tell the leader about Jesus. A man called Elymas worked for the leader. He hated God and told people lies about him. Elymas was angry at what Paul and Barnabas were saying. He tried to stop the leader from believing in Jesus.
Elymas is punished Acts 13: 8 -11 But God showed Paul what to do. He looked at Elymas and said “You are God’s enemy! You are always telling lies and tricking people. God is angry with you. He is going to make you blind for a while. ” Immediately Elymas could not see! He needed someone to lead him by the hand.
The leader believes Acts 13: 12 The leader was shocked by what happened to Elymas. He knew God had punished him and made him blind because he was against God. The leader was amazed at all Paul taught him about God and his Son, Jesus. The leader believed in God and became a follower of Jesus. It was good he had not been put off by Elymas.
