Patrol Tactics & Violence De-Escalation What: Patrol Tactics is built upon Washington State Law

Patrol Tactics & Violence De-Escalation What: Patrol Tactics is built upon Washington State Law (WAC 139 -11); Specifically the Law Enforcement Training and Community Safety Act. This instruction emphasizing time, distance and shielding for officer and community safety. How & why is this important: Utilizing the five core principles increases the probability to effectively use time, distance and shielding to de-escalate potential force situations. 1) Legal Authority, demonstrate the knowledge of the legal authority to initiate contact, to enter a constitutionally protected zone. 2) Threat management, was there a threat identified. 3) Position and movement, how does an officer position themselves and their partner. 4) Communication, demonstrate the skills to effectively communicate during each contact. 5) Equipment management, if an officer deploys their equipment, were they done so safely.

How is Violence De-Escalation training supported? ü Commission staff developed an 80 -Hour Train-the. Trainer curriculum based upon the Washington Administrative Code (WAC 139 -11). ü The successful student completing this training will be certified to instruct the 24 -hour violence de-escalation training throughout the state. Only certified instructors may teach or participate in delivering this training! ü Commission certified instructors are currently providing patrol tactics training in eight regional locations and the CJTC Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

Everett PD, Clark County, Vancouver PD, KCSO, and Quincy are also currently holding a classes

Our Commitment to You Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Patrol Tactics training & Regional Training has been significantly reduced. Steps we have developed to keep our commitment: 1) Created an online version of our 80 -hour Train the Trainer course 2) Reduce in-person class size to adhere to social distancing and health safety protocols while maintaining the stakeholders' intent.
