Meet The Author Patricia Polacco was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1944. She lived on her grandparents farm in Union City, Michigan with her mom and Grandparents until 1949. Her parents divorced at age 3. Both returned home to their parents place. She spent school years with her mother in Michigan and summers with her father. Later in life she majored in fine art and continued on and in the end had a Ph. D. in Art History. She started to write children's books when she was 41 years old. Now she is currently living in Union City, Michigan again.

Favorite Patricia Polacco Book? Pink and Say is about two boys during the civil war. This book is my favorite because of the time period. I love the way the characters interact with each other. Although a sad ending, it was just the right amount of sad and happy.
