Communicating with Students, Parents and School Staff - important to seek up-to-date information - some trades have been delisted - important to know what’s “in demand” in your area - important to articulate which trades you’re talking about - what do these trades look like today? - clustering trades to promote a few rather than talking about all of the trades at the same time SCHOOL-COLLEGE-WORK INITIATIVE 4

Level 1 RTA Sign-up Night– Cambrian College RPT 1 • Prior to start-up • 28 students with an RTA from both Boards • Paperwork is so important so we wanted to bring them together and also celebrate this with them and their parents/guardians • An opportunity for them to meet their employers and tour Cambrian’s skilled trades labs AGENDA 5: 00 - Registration, arrival and light dinner - sit apprentices and employers at same tables 5: 30 - MLTSD to address group and talk about what it means to be an apprentice. Question: How do students who have completed level 1 move on to the next level? Are they contacted by the ministry or their OYAP coordinator? Question: How are the courses chosen that are offered at each program? - Board and College reps on Region Planning Teams jointly determine which dual credit courses (or Level 1 s) to offer - decisions will be based on what the college can offer, and ideally on student interest, and the suitability of the course for the target audience SCHOOL-COLLEGE-WORK INITIATIVE 40
Question: Rural students getting to take Level 1 s May be a function of what is offered in certain areas SCWI provides funding for transportation, within the RPT SCHOOL-COLLEGE-WORK INITIATIVE 41
