Modem device connecting computers via phone line, allowing the exchange of information.

Network Card the hardware added to the machine that allows it to communicate with the network.

SOUND CARD • circuit board for computer sound that allows a personal computer to receive sound in digital form and reproduce it through speakers

Case the enclosure that contains most of the components of a computer (usually excluding the display, keyboard and mouse).

Key board set of keys: an array of keys in a row or rows used for operating something such as a computer or musical instrument

CPU central processing unit: the key component of a computer system, which contains the circuitry necessary to interpret and execute program instructions.

MOUSE v a hand-operated electronic device that controls the coordinates of a cursor on your computer screen as you move it around on a pad and inputs selection by clicks; on the bottom of the device is a ball that rolls on the surface of the pad

FAN A computer fan is any fan inside a computer case used for cooling purposes, and may refer to fans that draw cooler air into the case from the outside, expel warm air from inside, or move air across a heatsink to cool a particular component. The use of fans to cool a computer is an example of active cooling.

ROM RAM • VS CDROM • (compact disk read-only memory), also written as CD-ROM, is a type of optical storage media that allows data to be written to it only once. • It stores data for a long period of time • RAM • (random access memory) is an acronym for random access memory, a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly, and can be rewritten • It stores data for a short period of time

CD DRIVE/ BLURAY/ DDR A type of ROM used to store digital data

A computer display device that displays data or images generated by a computer or terminal monitor

Heat sink A device used inside a computer to cool the processor It is placed directly on top of the processor

Fan Any fan used inside of a computer to actively cool It helps the heat sink by blowing air through it.

Hard Drive computer hardware that holds and spins a magnetic or optical disk and reads and writes information on it It has the ability to store data permanently

Video Card A circuit board in a computer system designed to generate output for the system's video display screen. A laptop’s is usually soldered to the motherboard

Output device electronic or electromechanical equipment that connects to a computer and used to transfer data out of the computer in the form of text, images, sounds, or other media. This can be printed documents, sound, and video projection

Input devices a device that can be used to insert data into a computer or other computational device, to be used later in various processes

Any written program or procedures or rules and associated documentation pertaining to the operation of a computer system and that are stored in read/write memory This can be a game, DOS, or programs
