Verbal Adjectives come in 4 types Present Active читающая публика (the reading public) Past Active приехавшие студенты (the students who had come) Present Passive любимая тема (beloved theme) Past Passive сломанная нога (broken leg)
Вид причастий Aspect of Verbal Adjectives Present Verbal Adjectives (active and passive) can be formed from Imperfective verbs only. улыбающиеся студенты (the smiling students) уважаемые коллеги (respected colleagues) Past Passive Verbal Adjectives can be formed from Perfective verbs only, since the action is finished and the VA describes the result. украденные пироги (the stolen pies) выпитая водка (the vodka which had been drunk)

The case of который will tell you if the Verbal Adjective is active (nom. ) or passive (acc. ) Only transitive verbs (verbs that take a direct object) make passive participles Раскольников думал о женщине, которую он убил. => Раскольников думал об убитой им женщине. Any other case of который cannot be transformed into a verbal adjective. Акакий наконец купил шинель, о которой он мечтал. => X Вот роман, которым я интересуюсь. => X
How to form Present Active Verbal Adjectives: Start with 3 rd pl. (они) form танцуют
танцующ Add adjective endings -ий
How to form Past Active Verbal Adjectives Start with the masculine singular past tense form.
выпил Remove the -л
выпивш add adjective endings -ий
If the masculine past ends in another consonant, add -ший привыкший принёсший помогший
Replace the following который clauses with Verbal Adjective constructions. Remember: который gets its case from the clause it’s in, but Verbal Adjectives agree with the noun they modify! Который in the nominative = Active Verbal Adjective. Present verb = Present VA, Past verb = Past VA. Принц целует красавицу, которая спит. Принц целует спящую красавицу. Проверяют документы у всех кавказцев, которые живут в Москве. Проверяют документы у всех кавказцев, живущих в Москве.
