Participating in TIMSS and ICILS enables cross national comparisons of relative achievement and in relevant subgroups within countries TIMSS mathematics – number, algebra, geometry & measurement, and data & probability TIMSS science – biology, physics, chemistry, and earth science ICILS – computer and information literacy and computational thinking
Both assessments collect context questionnaires similar information on student characteristics. Comparisons are possible based on this overlapping information: Achievement in TIMSS and ICICLS subjects can be compared by: • • • students’ socioeconomic background gender immigrant status use of technology at home and in school other variables at the school and country level
