Permission Letter
Permission Letter “I understand that the descriptive metadata – as distinguished from the digital objects themselves – will be made freely available by the DPLA for harvesting and re-use under a Creative Commons CC 0 license. ”
Data Sharing • Is your system configured to share metadata records? • Regional Collections=Yes! • Local Collections=Probably (and we’ll work with you to help configure!) • How do we harvest metadata from partners? • OAI-PMH
Data Sharing • Harvesting is Incremental • Monthly from your institution to ESDN • Bimonthly from ESDN to DPLA • Do not have to contribute all digital content/collections at once • Selective harvesting
Metadata “Service hubs provide DPLA with their partners’ unique metadata records that resolve to digital objects…through a single data feed. . . ” http: //dp. la/info/hubs
Workflow Partner Metadata
Overview • Different metadata formats from partners • Different systems • Different guidelines and local practices • ESDN normalizes and sends out as one stream of metadata to DPLA • Harvest from many feeds, provide one feed
Ongoing Partnership • Ongoing relationship between ESDN and partners • New collections to harvest • Alert ESDN to changes to system/metadata that impact on data feed • Harvest schedule • Partner is aware of when ESDN is harvesting, and when DPLA is harvesting from ESDN
