Georgia Becomes A Royal Colony v. Cap. John Reynolds sails from England to become Georgia’s first Royal Governor v. Reynolds was the head of Georgia’s new Colonial Government v. Reynolds was a very poor Governor and was replaced by Henry Ellis
The Anglican Church of England is Declared the Official Church of Georgia v. The Colony was divided up into religious districts called Parishes (Georgia’s 1 st counties) v. Each Parish voted on church wardens and taxes that supported the local church and help the poor.
Georgia’s Third and Final Royal Governor v. Sir James Wright was genuinely concerned about Georgia’s colonists, he served as Royal Governor for almost 20 years
ROYAL COLONY LAND OWNERSHIP SLAVERY GOVERNMENT • colonists allowed to own and sell more land • only wealthy could own slaves • Royal governors appointed by King • large plantations farms with slave labor • worked on rice plantations • Trustee laws repealed • social classes developed • planters bought more and more land • border of Georgia increased south to St. Mary’s River and west to Mississippi River • bi-cameral legislature • white males with property could vote • changed the economy of Georgia – grew rich • colonists had more freedom: self-government • slaves were property and had no rights • court system to settle disputes

Think back to when you were in elementary school. How are the rules more complex in middle school? Tomochichi and James Oglethorpe were leaders of different societies. Do you think Indians and colonists had to adapt to one another’s rules and government?
