PART ONE – YOUR IDEA By MJ Babington
RATIONALE I personally think that I have found the year a struggle as I found it hard to fit in and had a lot of personal issues along the way. I have tried my very hardest to get on with my work and complete it to the best of my ability even when I have found it hard to come in. I have learnt a lot of journalistic skills along with a lot of life skills: working in a team, helping others and presenting to other people. I have developed and matured as person and have developed skills in using indesign, photoshop and my writing skills. I have learnt how to take good photos on a great quality camera and learnt how to use social media for business purposes. I have made my own website and have learnt how to write for news.
PROJECT CONCEPT The main idea I have come up with is how social media has effected the growing number of people/teens with depression in this day and age. I think this could be an interesting subject to touch upon as a lot of teenagers don’t understand how social media is such a bad thing were as the older generation do. I will be using primary research to ask other peoples opinions to gauge an understanding of different peoples thoughts on the matter. I will then use secondary research to find out statistics and true stories to do with the link between social media and depression. I will be using magazine and radio journalism for my two mediums. I chose these as on radio journalism you could interview different age groups about their experiences/ thoughts on the topic. I decided on magazine journalism as I could write a column about personal experience on depression. I think this will mean that it will be able to attracts all kinds of different audience members with different view points but I think it will mainly attract teenagers. I will use my production journal to develop my ideas using mindmaps and mood boards. I will need to use the radio studio to produce my radio segment and then most probably use final cut to edit. I will also use indesign for my magazine journalism and photoshop to edit the pictures I will take for my magazine.
EVALUATION I will look at my work and decide what worked well and where I could’ve improved by asking my peers for their thoughts and looking at how well I planned what I set out to achieve. I will also look at how good my research was and how this effected my outcome. I will record changes to my ideas in my production journal where I will also log all my research and developments to my ideas.
