What is Parkinson’s Disease? Parkinson’s /ˈpɑːr. kɪn. sənz/ is an genetic disease that occurs later in life. It is caused by a mutation in your genes. It is incurable, but can be treated. It was discovered over 7000 years ago in Ancient India. It was first formally recognized in 1861 by a French neurologist named Jean Martin Charcot.
What Does Parkinson’s Do? There are over 200, 000 cases of Parkinson’s a year. Parkinson’s is a disease that attacks the brain. Parkinson’s affects your movement. As you walk, your steps become closer and closer together and one of your hands is always tremoring.
Families vs. Parkinson’s If a loved one of yours has Parkinson’s, you are responsible for caring for them and you have to help them with almost everything. It’s hard to take time to yourself when your loved one needs constant help. The truth is the whole family has to deal with it.
