2018 Assessment Week commencing 22 nd October 2018. Park Hall Academy YEAR 9 Subject: French Length of exam: 10 minutes (Speaking Exam). Topics: Pupils have been studying a topic all about technology, the internet and what they do in their free-time. This includes which internet sites they like to use and describing how often and how they use the internet. They have also been working on describing others using higher-level grammar such as direct object pronouns and the perfect tense (past tense). We have been working on the skills they need to perfect in order to gain a grade 5. Equipment Required: 10 words help for the exam (maximum they are allowed to take into the examination). To prepare for the examination beforehand, they will need: • Their vocabulary revision book. • To prepare well beforehand the set questions (there also ‘surprise’ questions. ) • To attend the after school sessions for an hour to practise their speaking and give them confidence. ) Skills Assessed: Fluency and pronunciation – how well the pupils try to ‘sound French’ and realistic. Use of different tenses. Use of opinions and extending opinions using ‘parce que’ / ‘car’ (because). Use of different pronouns and names to describe others. Park Hall Academy YEAR 9 - Beginners Subject: French Length of exam: 1 hour (Writing) Topics: Pupils have been studying a topic where they learn the basics of the French language including introductory grammar and vocabulary. They learn numbers up to 100, greetings and alphabet, items in a bag, items in a classrooms as well as animals and colours. At the end of their module, they complete a piece of writing in classroom, examination conditions writing about themselves and all of these different topics. They have only ten words for help and no dictionary. Equipment Required: • Pen • Highlighter • Key Vocabulary (they will have a limit of ten words) • A plan for how they will structure their writing (in English). • They will not be allowed to use a dictionary. Skills Assessed: Extended writing in French. Spelling. Word order. Grammar targets such as using the correct articles and adjectives for masculine, feminine and plural nouns. Adapting the present tense with different pronouns to describe others (ie: ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘they’) ‘Ambitious’ use of new vocabulary they have learnt themselves. Park Hall Academy YEAR 9 (Sets 1 and 2) Subject: Spanish Length of exam: 10 minutes (Speaking) Topics: Pupils have been learning across a range of topics as they were introduced to the ‘Mi Insti’ or ‘My School’ theme. This includes learning about describing which subjects they study at school and how to give their opinions on this in Spanish. In addition, they have been learning how to tell the time in Spanish, what they eat in the canteen and what activities they do at break-time. Their assessment will be a speaking exam answering questions about their school life in Spanish. Equipment Required: 10 words help for the exam (maximum they are allowed to take into the examination). 2018 Assessment Week commencing 22 nd October 2018. Park Hall Academy YEAR 9 (Set 3) Subject: Spanish Length of exam: 1 hour (Writing). Topics: Pupils have been learning across a range of topics as they were introduced to Spanish this term. They have been studying a topic called ‘La Ciudad’ which is to help the pupils describe their home town in Spanish including places they can see in their area, opinions about their area and where they would like to go in the future. Their assessment will be for them to write all about their local area in as much detail as they possibly can in Spanish. They will be allowed to take ten words into their Spanish examinations but nothing else. Equipment Required: • Pen • Highlighter • Key Vocabulary (they will have a limit of ten words) • A plan for how they will structure their writing (in English). • They will not be allowed to use a dictionary. Skills Assessed: Extended writing in Spanish. Ability to form sentences with the correct punctuation. Including the correct spellings of verbs. An understanding of how spellings change depending on whether nouns they are masculine, feminine or plural. Using conjunctions and opinions to extend sentences. Subject: PE Length of exam: 1 hour Topics: • Girls – Gymnastics and Netball • Boys – Football and Basketball Equipment Required: • Full PE kit Skills Assessed: Physical – Activity specific skills, using these in a realistic/game situation. Personal/Social – Determination, resilience, co-operation, Working with others. Giving feedback to others to bring about improvement. Some pupils will be able to show leadership skills. Cognitive – Use tactics to outwit an opponent. Understanding of how to break down skills in Trampolining and use of progressive practises. Knowledge and understanding of how to improve personal fitness. Knowing own strengths and weakness and understanding how to use strengths to benefit performance and how to improve weaknesses.
