Parents’ Information Session Kilbowie Outdoor Education Centre 5 th September 2017

Kilbowie Outdoor Education Centre • 18 th September 2017 • 3 Nights • 38 Children plus 4 staff members from St. Aidan’s Primary • Mrs Donnelly, Miss Collins, Miss Bell and Miss Jones • Two other schools – St. Thomas’ and St. Patrick’s

Setting Off • Meet in school gym hall at 8: 40 • 9: 00 – 9: 15 bus will leave St. Aidan’s Primary School • 1 piece of manageable luggage per pupil please! • Packed lunch required – stop at Green Welly in Tyndrum • Arrival in Kilbowie between 1: 30 and 2: 30 • Children’s rooms confirmed on arrival • Limited sweets/juice for bus trip • Travel medication to be taken prior to arrival at school • Return journey medication to be given to Miss Jones • Electronic games/cameras may be taken – at your own risk • Absolutely no: Mobile phones/hairdryers/straighteners/spray on deodorant

Activities • Children will be in groups of between 9 and 10 • Groups will be mixed across all schools • Fully qualified outdoor education specialist will lead each group – this person will be with your child for the whole week and will get to know them very well • Three activity sessions per day – all necessary equipment is provided • All children will be challenged and supported – but not forced to participate in activities • All children will surprise themselves at their specific achievements

Activities include Canoeing Sailing Abseiling Orienteering Cycling Gorge Walking Skiing Hill Climbing Investigating local habitats

Clothing list provided No need for new clothing Lots of socks and underwear Warm hat and gloves Include a black bin bag/supermarket carrier bags for wet/dirty clothing to be returned to you • Slippers/change of trainers for inside the centre • Large and small towel plus usual toiletries soap/toothpaste etc • Disco outfit! • • •

Behaviour • All children must listen at all times to instructions from lead instructor/teacher regarding times, equipment etc. • All children must be aware of how their actions affect everyone in the group – huge focus on teamwork and taking responsibility • All children responsible for ensuring specialist equipment is returned each night to wet room/kit room • All children must obey lights out/settle down time

Medication All medication must be labelled in a clear bag with your child’s name Dosage clearly visible for staff member Must be handed to Miss Jones prior to setting off Med 1 form to be completed and returned to school – this will be taken to Kilbowie • School will inform Kilbowie staff of any serious allergies – epi pens will be carried at all times • Any confidential issues please discuss with me at the end of the meeting • •

Additional information • • Tuck shop time every night - £ 6 maximum spending money = £ 2. 00 per night Any birthdays will be celebrated Ensure your son/daughter can lift their luggage Practise making a bed/putting a duvet cover on! Label electronic equipment and cameras Children and staff will return to school by 3: 00 on Thursday 21 st September exhausted!
