The Leader in Me

Overview of The Leader in Me: 1. Is a process designed to help teachers develop leadership skills in their students. 2. Helps students discover their unique strengths. 3. Gives all students an opportunity to shine—to become leaders. 4. Helps infuse the language of the 7 Habits into all the curriculum.

Behavior Management Flow Chart

At the end of each day, the teacher will review their dojo points and record the color they received based on how many points they have for the day. 6 or more points= pink 4 -5 points= purple 2 -3 more points= blue 0 -1 point = green -1 point= yellow -2 points= orange -3 points= red Teachers will record any notes of concern or kudos in the comment section of the student agenda. Records of student behavior in class dojo will be used to determine conduct grade on the report card. Please Sign Up!

Homework • Parents, please work with your children. • Students are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes nightly with an adult. • Additional homework includes: - Homework Choice Board - Word Family activities - Math Investigations/Skills practice

Birthdays and Parties • • If your child is having a birthday party – invitations may be brought to school only if they are given out to the entire class. – On your child’s birthday, we strongly encourage you to send non -food items. If you send food items they must be store bought with the nutritional label attached and individual portions. Items that are temperature sensitive are not allowed (ex: ice cream). – The teacher must know in advance if you are bringing in a birthday treat for the class. – If you choose to bring something for a birthday to school, these items will be served at the end of the day. We will have two parties this school year. – Winter Celebration – End of Year Celebration

Dress Code • No spaghetti straps, exposed backs, tank shirts or excessively frayed jeans. Please no flip flops. Tennis shoes should be worn everyday. • Please refer to the student handbook.

• Parent Volunteers and PTA Please remember to get a Visitor’s Badge at the office each time • There are many ways to contribute to your child’s school. • • • you come onto campus. – PTA coordinates the volunteer program. – If you are interested in helping out on our campus, attending field trips, or helping in the classroom, you must have DPS clearance. • Form: www. neisd. net/vol/index. html. We strongly encourage you to join our wonderful PTA. This organization does so much for our children. It is great way to stay involved. Membership dues are $6. 50 person. We are working towards 100% participation this year! * Please sign up if you would like to be a parent helper.

Attendance • ALWAYS CALL IN ABSENCES @ 407 -7001 (Can be dialed 24/7) • ALWAYS send in a note either from parent OR from a doctor WITHIN 2 DAYS OF STUDENT’S RETURN • NO MORE THAN 8 (eight) PARENT NOTES can be coded as and counted towards EXCUSED ABSENCES • Students that leave campus before 9: 30 a. m. or arrive after 9: 30 a. m. without a note for attending a medical appointment will be considered as absent the entire school day. • If your child is tardy, you must walk him/her inside the building.

Transportation and Bus Tags • If there is a change in the way that your child gets home from school, you must send a note to the teacher on the morning of the change. • If it’s a permanent change, you must complete a new transportation form which you can receive from the office. • If the teacher does not receive the note , the child will go home the way you instructed on the information card. • Any changes in dismissal will not be accepted after 2: 00 pm. Students are required to have their district issued bus tag every time they ride the bus from school. • The bus tags need to remain attached to your child’s backpack at all times!

Conferences/Early Dismissal • Fall parent conferences will be held on November 1 st and 2 nd. • Spring parent conferences will be held on February 7 th and 8 th. • There will be early dismissal on those days at 12: 40. • Please send a note if your child will go home a different way on early dismissal days.

Medication • All students’ medication must be given to the school nurse by the parent or guardian of that student. • Students will need to go to the clinic to receive any type of medication. – Please note: Cough drops and medicated lip balm are not allowed at school.

Legal Documents • If you have any legal paperwork regarding court orders for your child, please provide a copy to Administration in the office. • If you have a child returning to our campus from last year, please make the current classroom teacher aware of the court orders on file.
