Why was the PAT-P developed? ● Historical Service Delivery ○ Group/block therapy ○ Minimal Parent Involvement ○ Some carryover noted ○ Only option for mild-moderate articulation services via private therapy ● Introduction of pilot articulation remediation program for mandated service ● Parent Involvement ● Rapid remediation following introduction of pilot PAT-P ● Rollout to all schools, community agencies and private practitioners 2

Community Partnerships ● Community Care Access Centres (CCAC) - Moderate-severe articulation delays - Discharged when delays deemed to be mild-moderate - Streamlining/transition of services ● Private SLPs and other outside agencies - Direct referral of OCDSB students with mild-moderate articulation delays ● Elimination of wait list for OCDSB students with mildmoderate articulation delays 3

Referral Process ● Consultation with community agencies and private practice professional group ● Liaison with CASLPO ● Development of referral form to be submitted by all referring clinicians (electronic and fax submissions) ○ PAT-P referral form ● Development of parent registration form ○ Parent Registration Form ● Website creation - link within the OCDSB website ● Design and distribution of PAT-P pamphlet ● Annual presentation to Learning Support Teachers and Consultants, as well as Principals and Superintendents 4

Referral Process Flowchart Screen Child has moderate-severe articulation errors phonological processes, lateralizes all sibilants, intelligibility is compromised Child has mild articulation difficulties and is stimulable on sound errors Eligible for the PAT-P : Provide feedback to parents Complete electronic PAT-P referral form Obtain signed release/exchange authorization form Inform parents of PAT-P; options for session dates/online video If NOT interested File referral form in OSR and laserfiche Fax referral to CCAC If interested File referral form in OSR and laserfiche Email registration form & packages to parents and referral form to Coordinator 5

What Happens Next? ● Following the screening and feedback, parents are provided with the option of attending a PAT-P workshop in person, accessing an online video presentation of the PATP, or both. ● Electronic copies of the sound packages individualized to their child’s articulation errors are emailed to the parents by the referring SLP. Families who are not able to print the packages are given paper versions. Hard copies are also available at the workshop. 6

Hard to Serve Families ● Some parents are unable to attend the workshop for a variety of reasons so consequently, a video (DVD) presentation was developed. Since that time, the video presentation has been posted on the OCDSB website to provide access worldwide. Parent Articulation Training Program Webpage 7

PAT-P Workshop ● Workshops are held centrally at the OCDSB Office, on several evenings throughout the school year ● Upon request, workshops can also be held at schools by region ● These interactive, fun and motivating workshops are one hour and fifteen minutes in length ● The target audience includes high school students, parents, grandparents, teachers, resource teachers, administrators, consultants, multi-cultural liaison officers and outside agencies. ● Parent Articulation Training Program Video 8

Sound Packages ● Sound packages consist of a choice of either hard copies or electronic copies (full and/or condensed formats) ● Parents are instructed to work on only one sound at a time, which are ranked, by order of stimulability and developmental acquisition, by the referring SLP. 10
