Copy and Paste Word Data into an Excel Worksheet Microsoft Office is a suite that allows integration, which is the combining of data from two or more programs into one document. Ø Integration can occur by copying and pasting data between programs. Copy and Paste Word Data into an Excel Worksheet…continued To copy data from Word to Excel: 1. Open Word and Excel and the desired documents. 2. Select the desired data in Word. 3. Link an Excel Worksheet with a Word Document If you continuously update data that is copied to other programs, consider copying and linking the data. Ø When data is linked, the data exists in the source program but not as separate data in the destination program. Ø The destination program contains only a code that identifies the name and location of the source program, document, and the location in the document. Embed an Excel Worksheet into a Word Document You can copy an object between documents in a program, link an object, or embed an object. Ø A linked object resides in the source program but not as a separate object in the destination program. Ø An embedded object resides in the document in the source program as well as the destination program. Troubleshoot Linking and Embedding Problems Ø If you double-click a linked or embedded object and a message appears telling you that the source file or source program cannot be opened, consider the following troubleshooting options: § Make sure the source program is installed on your computer. If the source program is not installed, convert the object to the file format of a program that is installed. § Try closing other programs to free memory and make sure you have enough memory to run the source program. § Make sure the source program does not have any dialog boxes open. § If it is a linked object, check to make sure someone else is not working in the source file. © Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 17 Skills
