Campaign Logistics -Share the mission and purpose of Imagination Library and Governor’s Books from Birth with potential partners. -Seek permission from participating partner(s) to communicate and solicit donations from employees. -Assign a point person for each building/location for communication purposes. -Collaborate with Governor’s Books from Birth to set up online donation portal·
Campaign Communication -Formulate and send a message to the building administrator or business leader to seek final approval. -Personalize your message with your statistics. (infographic example) -After approval is received, communicate logistics with point person and provide a sample campaign message to send to employees with campaign details. -Communication examples are at the end of the presentation.
Campaign Challenges (Lessons Learned) -Collaborate with Governor’s Books from Birth on your campaign. -Know the bookkeeping policies of your local Imagination Library. -Don’t take cash! Too much to manage. -Competition is healthy, but keep the focus on the mission and purpose of Governor’s Books from BIrth.
Fundraising Grows and Glows -Small events are often not lucrative enough to justify the work. Things we have tried: Chili Luncheon Family Reading Fair -Go Big or Go Home! Seeking large donations that are sustainable from local businesses and civic groups.
Message to School Administrators Principals, I represent CMCSS on the Montgomery County Imagination Library Board. The Imagination Library provides a high-quality book each month to children ages birth to 5. Although you may know how the mail program works, what you may not know is that we raise the money from our local community to make Imagination Library possible for children in Montgomery County. We currently serve almost 10, 000 children in the county at the cost of $12 per child, that’s a book bill of $120, 000 a year! A common misconception about this program is that Dolly Parton pays for the books, but all of our local funding is secured through fundraising, business donations, and grants. Last year we reached out to the schools for the very first time with our fundraising campaign, “For the Love of Reading”. Our elementary schools generously contributed over $11, 000 during the month of February. This year we are including all schools in our fundraising efforts. With your permission, teachers and staff will be offered jeans day coupons for a donation of $12, the cost to sponsor one child’s books for a year. Teachers who want to donate more are welcome to! As you know, literacy and the love of reading begins at home and the Imagination Library provides books to many children that may not have them otherwise. If you DO NOT want your school to participate, please let me know by Friday, Feb 2. I will work through coaches on the collection of money and distribution of jeans day coupons. All donations will be received through the Governor’s Books from Birth portal or checks directly to the Imagination Library of Montgomery County so your school’s will not have to handle the money. I have attached an info graphic with details about the program. I appreciate your consideration. Happy reading, Emily Vaughn On behalf of The Imagination Library of Montgomery County
