Pandas Diet Pandas eat up to 20 to 40 pounds of food a day.
What Pandas eat almost nothing but bamboo shoots and leaves. Occasionally they eat other vegetation, fish, or small animals, but bamboo accounts for 99 percent of their diets. Pandas eat fast, they eat a lot, and they spend about 12 hours a day doing it.
Where do they live? The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China.
Food and Shelter Wild pandas live only in mountainous regions in central China. These high bamboo forests are cool and wet just as pandas like it. They can climb as high as 13, 000 feet to feed on higher slopes in the summer season.
Baby Pandas are small when they were born. There mom has to feed them until the pandas are three months.
This is a 20 year old panda. Life Span If a panda is left in the wild it can live a whole twenty years. If the panda is taken by a zoo it would live ten years.
Pregnancy Giant pandas are loners. They have a highly developed sense of smell that males use to avoid females who are pregnant. After a pregnancy, girls give birth to a cub or two. The cubs weigh only 5 ounces at birth and cannot crawl until they are three months.
Endangered There are only about 1, 000 giant pandas left in the wild. Perhaps 100 pandas live in zoos, where they are always among the most popular attractions.
