2012 Total E-Waste Tonnage • Palm Springs Disposal Services has recovered 36. 73 tons of e-waste in the calendar year of 2012 along with 19. 76 tons of used tires and 30 gallons of oil. • Springs 2012 city wide clean-up yielded 13. 05 tons of waste along with tires and e-waste. • Fall 2012 city wide clean-up yielded 48. 92 tons of waste along with tires and e-waste
AB 341 Mandatory Recycling • AB 341 – Business Requirements – • Businesses that generate 4 cubic yards of commercial solid waste a week and multi-family dwellings of 5 units or more are required to arrange for recycling services on and after July 1, 2012 AB 341 – Jurisdiction Regulatory Requirements - Jurisdictions must implement a commercial recycling program that consist of: • Education/Outreach – Informing businesses of State requirements and how to recycle in the jurisdiction. The City of Palm Springs is partnered with Palm Springs Disposal Services to make recycling programs available. Informational Letters and brochures will be sent to facilities that are not in compliance.
Jurisdictions must implement a commercial recycling program that consist of: • Monitoring – Identifying businesses that aren’t recycling and informing them of the State requirement. • A tracking database of all businesses in Palm Springs has been developed by Palm Springs Disposal Services and will be used to track and monitor all business/multifamily waste & recycling programs. • Reporting - Recycling programs and quantities are reported to Cal. Recycle (State) in the Electronic Annual Report.
Palm Springs AB 341 Status • To Date Approximately 40 Businesses have signed up for a recycling program since the regulation has taken effect (July, 2012). • To Date Approximately 25 multi-family dwellings have signed up for a recycling program since the regulation has taken effect (July, 2012).
