Grading Policy (Cont’d) Timeline/ Access: Students will receive official report card grades three times a year. The release dates are 12/23/2020, 4/16/2021 and 6/25/2021. Parents can access the report card grades online by logging on to: https: //mystudent. nyc Content Area Grades: Teachers will assign grades for ELA, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Listening/Speaking and Academic/Personal Behaviors. ENL grades will be entered for groups of students who are Entering or Emerging. Dual-language overall grades only will be entered. Cluster teachers will assign grades for Physical Ed. , Science, Technology, Art, and Music. Grades are based on academic progress and performance, considering a student’s entire body of work in each subject area. Percentages for calculating grades: 55% informal/formal assessment, 30% tasks/projects, and 15% discussion/ participation. Flexibility to Accommodate for Student Access to Devices or High-Speed Internet and proficiency with the Google Classroom Platform: Teachers will consider students’ access to devices or familiarity with Google Classroom and support them in catching up with their learning once they have received their device or have improved proficiency navigating the Google Classroom platform. Alternate work (ex. paper materials) issued to students will be reviewed and considered in the teachers’ overall assessment of whether students have mastered learning outcomes. Deadlines, due dates and late work: Teachers will make adjustments to deadlines for individual students who have experienced a personal loss, illness or other trauma. When teachers offer opportunities to submit late assignments, those will be calculated into the grade. Due dates will be clearly communicated to students and families. Assignment due dates will be aligned to the timelines for entering grades for each marking period. We will not penalize students for missing remote learning sessions or if they submit late work, if they successfully demonstrate meeting the associated learning outcomes in other ways. Homework and Extra Credit: Homework will be considered an effort grade and will not be used to calculate academic achievement, unless clearly specified by the teacher as being a student “project”. Extra credit will be considered an effort grade. Attendance: Our goal is for our students to attend school every day. When students attend remote and blended learning consistently, they have the greatest opportunity to make progress, receive support from teachers, and demonstrate their learning. Although attendance will not be factored into grades, we will monitor attendance trends and work towards improvement strategies.
Minutes of Synchronous Instruction Teachers follow this guidance when planning “live” synchronous instruction in remote learning models
