What is OFW? OFW = Oxygen Fuel Gas Welding • Requires Fuel Gas & Oxygen • Uses Tanks, Regulators, Hoses, and Torches • Requires Peripheral Equipment • (i. e. , Mask, Flint Lighter, Tank Wrench, and Tip Cleaners) 2 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Oxyfuel Gas Welding A group of welding processes that produces coalescence of workpieces by heating them with an oxyfuel gas flame. Bead without Filler Metal The processes are used with or without the application of pressure and with or without filler metal. Bead with Filler Metal 3 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Advantages • Low Cost Equipment • No Electricity Required • All Position Welding • Extremely Portable 4 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Advantages • Variety of Thickness • No Slag • No Spatter • High Quality Welds 5 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Limitations Of OFW • Primarily Ferrous Materials • Must Operate under “Hot Zone” Concept • (Fire Hazard) • Various Hazards Associated with Fuel Gases, Oxygen and High Pressure Gases 6 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Limitations Of OFW • Flashbacks & Backfires • Often Slow • Cannot Weld with All Fuel Gases 7 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
What is OFC? OFC = Oxygen Fuel Gas Cutting • Requires Fuel Gas & Oxygen • Uses Tanks, Regulators, Hoses, and Torches • Requires Peripheral Equipment • (i. e. , Mask, Flint Lighter, Tank Wrench, and Tip Cleaners) 8 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Oxy. Fuel Gas Cutting A group of oxygen based cutting processes that uses heat from an oxyfuel gas flame to bring up to the kindling temperature and helps maintain the cut on steel. Severing of the material is achieved by the oxygen jet which burns the iron in the steel, which has been heated to kindling temperature by oxyfuel preheat flames. 9 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Advantages • No Electricity Required • All Position Cutting • Extremely Portable • Low Cost Equipment 10 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Advantages • Suitable for Cutting Thick & Thin Materials • Can be Readily Used Underwater • Requires Moderate Operator Skill Level 11 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Limitations • Materials Limited, Primarily Ferrous • Additional Operator Protection Necessary • Must Operate under “Hot Zone” Concept • (Fire Hazard) 12 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
Limitations • Various Hazards Associated with Handling of Fuel Gases and High Pressure Gases • Flashbacks and Backfires 13 Copyright 2004 Lincoln Global Inc.
