Oxfordshire SEN Guidance

How to use the guidance All schools and settings should have a clear approach to early identification and response to children and young people’s SEN as part of their universal offer. This guidance supports Oxfordshire schools and settings to implement the SEN Code of Practice but does not replace the statutory guidance.

The Graduated Response

Use the SEN Information Form to gather observations and evidence

Use the Initial Screening Tool to identify key areas of need

Use the appropriate descriptors to unpick the child/young person’s needs in detail. Use a Pupil Profile and IPT to outline and record the support the pupil needs.

Use the Access section to identify additional assessment materials that may be useful.

The Plan section will help you to consider the best provision for the child/young person.

The Do section will help you implement the best provision.

Progress and provision should be reviewed with parents at least 3 times a year. Use the review section to ensure successful reviews.

The External Agency Support section gives advice on agencies to contact if you need further support.

Supporting Wider Outcomes will help you consider support the child/young person may need to access activities beyond school.

Further Information and Training for Staff is important to build capacity within school.

The final section signposts families to further support services.

If we ensure that SEN Support is as good as it possibly can be, children and young people will thrive, and there will be less need for EHCPs.
