Why has the paper taken so long? • Initial proposals for large detector were unrealistic. Once we made detailed estimates of the WIMP exclusion capabilities with pure SF 6, we had to restart with different gas mixtures. Also a number of other improvements. 1. Directionality insufficient at low recoil energies. Rectified by going from SF 6 He: SF 6 (740: 20) He: SF 6 (755: 5) (Cosmin, Sven, Ciaran) 2. Gain with SF 6 (negative ion drift) likely insufficient for optical readout unless very large number of sensors are used, which drives up cost. Added simulation of He: CF 4 (electron drift) mixtures for this readout (Kentaro, Cosmin, Sven) 3. CYGNO experiment proposes 3 D optical readout. Added simulation of 2 D optical CMOS readout combined with 1 D PMT signal (Elisabetta, Sven) 4. Most figures in the paper were not publication quality. All have been improved. Consistent colors in Ciaran and Sven’s plots. (Ciaran, Sven) 5. Large fluctuations in some pseudo-experiments reduced by using parameterized readout performance (Sven)

Remaining work • Update the pseudo-experiments with large fluctuations + revise simulation text +

Remaining work • Update the pseudo-experiments with large fluctuations + revise simulation text + final technology shootout table (Sven, today and tomorrow) • Address the fact that different gas mixtures are used in different parts of paper (Sven, today and tomorrow) • Simplify conclusion on backgrounds (Sven? ) • Update reach plots / finetune final message[abstract, conclusion, reach plots] (Ciaran, Sven. Some discussion needed) (Jan 1 -7? ) • Do you have other changes you wish to make before final readthrough? • Post pdf on nb. mit. edu. Final readthrough by all authors + chance to add new references (as soon as other items are done. Approx. Jan 7 th? )

High level summary • Numerous revisions of the simulation have taken much time. Simulation finished. Minor simulation plot / text revision left. (<1 week) • Paper describes different gases in different chapters. Do not intend to change this (would cause further delay), just explain it clearly. • Need to finetune the high-level message carefully. Propose that Ciaran and I do this for consistency. • There will be a ~2 week period with a chance for all authors to read and comment.
