Purpose To provide information about our school’s Title I program. • Our students are in a Title 1 school wide program. • This means Title 1 money can be used to upgrade educational programs that impact every child. Every parent/guardian in our school is a Title 1 parent!
WHAT IS TITLE I? Title I is a federal grant program designed to give educational assistance to students living in areas of high poverty. The Title I program originated in 1965 when Congress passed the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and was reauthorized in 2001 with the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act. Title I is one of the oldest and largest federal programs supporting elementary and secondary education in existence, and over 90% of the school systems in the United States receive some sort of Title I funding. Ø The Title I program provides financial assistance through State educational agencies (SEAs) to local educational agencies (LEAs) and public schools with high numbers or percentages of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards. Title I reaches about 12. 5 million students enrolled in both public and private schools. Title I funds may be used for children from preschool age to high school, but most of the students served (65 percent) are in Ø
Title I Program • What is “Title I”? – Funds to provide programs to help children who are struggling in reading and math. – Extra help (in addition to what is learned during math and reading time in the classroom) – Funding provided under ESSA Every Student Succeeds Act (2015), which replaces the No Child Left Behind Act. ESSA provides updated guidelines in terms of student supports, school improvement, accountability and educator development. • Types of Programs: – After school program (grades 3 -8) – Targeted – students identified for the program based on their performance on assessments.
ESSA: Key Take Aways • Key Take Aways: • The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) affects all students, including those with IEPs and 504 plans. • ESSA encourages states to expand personalized learning. • ESSA requires states to involve parents in the accountability process for schools.
Title 1 Programs impact student achievement by: • Providing additional services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time • Providing students with an enriched and accelerated academic program • Significantly elevating the quality of instruction • Affording parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children • Funding supplementary programs • Funding supplementary materials and staff • Funding programs and services that specifically support students with the greatest academic need
Title I Funds in Our School • Program Funds – Amount of Funds available for this year: $25, 549 • Title I Parent Involvement Funds – Amount of funds available for this year: $1, 101 – Host Parent Involvement Day; including workshops, refreshments and takeaways. – Parents can be involved with deciding how funds are spent by attending PTA meetings, and the Annual Title I Meeting.

Curriculum • Our district uses this curriculum: – CKLA (K) and ELA Journeys (grades 1 -5) Collections (grades 6 -8) – En. Vision Math (K-8) in order to help the children achieve the State Standards. www. https: //www. engageny. org/resource/new -york-state-p-12 -common-core.
Assessments • • Assessments are used to help teachers determine if a student is understanding the content presented in the classroom. We use the following assessments for our students ü ü ü ü ü Briganze (K) beginning of school benchmark DIBELS/TRC (Pre. K, K-1) Diagnostic Tests DIBELS (K-1) Progress Monitoring Waterford (Pre. K, K-1) New York State exams for ELA and Math (grades 3 -7, ELA only Grade 8) Regents; Algebra, Living Environment, Second Language Proficiency (3 High School Credit courses). New York State exam for Science (grade 4, 8) i-Ready (2 -8) Diagnostic Tests i-Ready (2 -8) Progress Monitoring CKLA (K), Journeys (Grades 1 -5), Collections (Grade 6 -8) beginning, mid, end of Unit tests
Proficiency Levels • If a child does not reach a certain proficiency level when they take an assessment, we consider them for additional help from our Title I program.
Proficiency Levels • Students who are identified as Tier 2 or Tier 3 students are given additional programs and small group differentiated instruction either within the classroom or with AIS providers, depending upon the needs of the students. Students most in need are prioritized to receive intensive services on a frequent basis.
Tier 2 and 3 Student Programs § Tier 3 students receive tailored small group instruction 4 times a week. K –DIBELS, CKLA Assessment and Remediation Guide Grades 1 -5 - Leveled Literacy Intervention 6 th -8 th Grade- Language Live and i-Ready lessons small group instructional plans § Tier 2 students receive differentiated instruction 23 times a week. PSSA Proficiency Levels • Your child will be taking the New York State ELA and Math Assessments in grades 3 -8. – Four Proficiency Levels for the 3 -8 Assessments • • Level 4 Level 3 Level 2 Level 1 – Our goal (and the State’s goal) is for your child to reach the Level 3 “Proficiency”or above Grade Level (Level 4) on the 3 -8 assessments.
Parent’s Rights • Teacher Qualifications. • Non-Highly Qualified Teacher four or more weeks. • Request opportunities to meet regularly with staff for parent involvement. • Participate in decisions affecting your child. • Review application for Title I and make suggestions.
